  3. So you can upgrade components, but if you change the motherboard, you need a new Windows license. Hi, I have upgraded from Windows 8. However, if you have full version of Windows 10 purchased from Windows store you can enter the product key to activate Windows 10 license.
  4. You will now get an activation wizard. But before that we need to know if the key is transferable or not.
  5. I do use a few of the pro features. You cannot activate it using just your Windows 8 or Windows 7 product key — read on to see what you need to do. I did the free upgrade for Windows 10. This forum has some of the best people in the world available to help. Once you have done this, the system will go through an upgrade process from Home to Pro, but will not be activated on Pro.
  6. Can I transfer Windows 10 Pro license to another computer? - Being the cheapskate I am, I was looking at getting a computer that doesn't come with a Windows install and save a fair bit.
  7. I also fully reformatted it after so that just Windows 10 was running on it. My question is, can I transfer that license from my tower. Sorry again if this sounds confusing, it's late where I am now No it makes sense. You may be able to call microsoft and have move windows 10 license to new computer invalidate the key entirely if you tell them it is for security reasons. You should be able to unlink the license from microsoft's site. Problem is that on reinstall, whoever does it first, gets dibs on license. On reinstall, it activation fails due to different hardware, which allows you to then unlink old one and relink new one. If you have not linked to microsoft account, things might get more tricky, I have not personally tried this. No such thing as oem when it comes to win 10 now You can take that activation over to a completely new build before you sell the old pc. Its a pita process though in all honesty. If its linked to an email address, I am not sure if it would auto activate if they used another email address to login. Many computer repair stores don't know you can skip the licence screen yet so I doubt a new buyer would.
