  1. My Thoughts on Feminism and Gender Equality
  2. My opinions about Feminism and gender equality are rooted very deeply in my current understanding of the biology of humans and many other animals.
  3. My opinion, for the most part, is rooted very heavily in the concept known as “The Disposable Male.” The concept of the disposable male, put simply, is that the brains of animals (male and female) are hardwired to think that females are more important than males.
  4. Of course, sceptics will disbelieve this immediately, but there is some truth to it, and an explanation of how it came about.
  5. The hardwiring is thought to have come about during the evolution of animals. (Mammals, primarily, but there are likely instances of this hardwiring in reptiles and other classes of animals as well)
  6. Take a small population of one small mammal, say 50,000 animals, half of them are male, and half of them are female. If one big disaster comes along and takes out too many of the female animals, assume only 1,000 or so are left, while 20,000 males are left, due to the inability of females to reproduce as rapidly as the males, the species is very likely to go extinct.
  7. However, if the males decide to take the initiative to protect the females from the disaster, possibly sacrificing themselves in the process, and reducing the female casualties, while increasing the male casualties, let’s say that 1,000 males and 20,000 females survived, due to the ability of males to reproduce with multiple females at the same time, the species is not in as much danger.
  8. In the end, females are the limiting factor in reproduction, due to the long gestation periods that they experience, and, as species died or prospered, surviving species developed a tendency to protect females.
  9. Now, applying the human factor to this, you see that many many many cultures have died out because they did not place emphasis on the importance of women. Karen Straughan puts it very well in her video, “Feminism and the Disposable Male” where she says “And while I will concede that this drive to keep women safe from all harm has often resulted in extreme limits being placed on women’s mobility, their agency, their power of decision to direct their on lives, all through history and in many cultures, even today. I think it’s telling that those cultures tend to be the most backward. When you consider the restrictions placed on women in places like Afghanistan, and then you consider that if we bombed them into the stone-age, it would be progress, I think you can conclude that the most successful societies had a really really good balance between allowing women freedom and the ability to choose and direct their own path in life, and the need to protect and provide for them.” ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vp8tToFv-bA )
  10. In the context of today, this has caused problems for both men and women, men face things like permanent alimony, harsher prison sentences, and the expectation to go to war. Women face the glass ceiling, lower wages, and victim blaming.
  11. My stance on gender equality is that both Feminism and The opposing Men’s Rights Associations are both tools for radicals to try to get a leg up on one another in society, and the only solution to the injustices in our society that both men and women face is a gender-neutral gender equality group.
