“This time, you thought that you would do it, but in vain. Your hands sweat, the earth is lost under your feet and your body paralyzes. But why? What is this feeling that prohibit you to go on?”
Fear
is a feeling that exists in the soul of all of us and we could get rid of it, in order to do what we want. To live our lives without fear, doesn’t mean that we have to be ignorant of danger or overestimate our abilities. It means that we need to feel the fear, evaluate it, and take it into account, and nevertheless, move on, to what we want to do.
All people are afraid of something, like of sickness, of accident, or of loss, but they shouldn’t think about it all the time. Don’t let it flood our lives and bind us. Bravery, moreover, doesn’t imply the absence of fear, but rather the management of it. So our goal must not be the lack of fear, but don’t keep us behind in our lives, and don’t let it to restrict us. Other than that, the fear is a natural feeling and necessary to protect us against possible dangers.
Causes of fear
Usually we are afraid of something we don’t know. It’s a hateful feeling and at the same time as intimate as nothing else. A fear is not always unpleasant and hateful. When we were kids, we loved the heartbeat during the game of hide- and- sick, as young adults searched this feeling by telling horror stories, or by watching thrillers. Fear is necessary in our life. We need it as a driving force, as a “challenge” to overcome our limits, to try, to fight and to improve.
The Danish philosopher Kierkegaard wrote: “fear contains an unlimited “I can” that is the driving force of human development. This sounds paradoxical, because we usually associate the sense of fear with “I cannot”… Changes in life fear us, because they are testing us and confronting us with ourselves in a very unpleasant way. We have to ask ourselves how to get used to the new situation, if we want to, and we need to see if we have the capacity to deal with it.”
In our lives, we can’t stand steady, we are forced to take steps forward and face our fears. We are also afraid of fear. It is a part of our life, but like all the “necessities” it must not exceed a certain limit. When fear becomes long, lasting and intense, it can make us sick and unhappy.
Ways to overcome
It may sound very outdated, but the only way to deal with our fears, is to get in touch with them. We need to come into contact with things and circumstances that cause us fear, limit us to our lives and forbid us to have a free and happy life. Whatever out phobias are, we have the possibility to treat them with our willing and our perseverance. Don’t forget that it’s an illusion. When worry comes to deprive every moment of calm, it means that it’s time to change something, otherwise we are in real danger of getting sick.
Scientists have found that avoiding to confront ourselves with our fears, makes them even bigger. Conversely, if we have the force to deal with them, we have the opportunity to eliminate them. The explanation of that is, by demonstrating that you can really do, what you considered as impossible, you gain self- confidence and self-esteem.
People who are successful and happy, have managed to overcome the negative effects of fear. To be like them, we should be courageous. Our aims should be to overcome fear and to see for ourselves how the anxiety, the worry and the doubt could melt away, inside of us.
According to scientists, every person in the world has the opportunity to learn getting through his or her fears. The problem seems to be the persons themselves, because they aren’t ready to face them, with the result to not transcend them.
First of all, we have to accept that we have fear of something. Only if we will accept the feeling of fear, we will manage to take the power to deal with it. So, people, trust me! Take a deep breath, admit that you are afraid and tried to cope with it.
Something important is that people can’t think logically in a situation with the emotion of fear. The feeling of panic is paying and they feel weak to do anything- panic attack is coming. Taking a brake and trying to calm down, is the only way to facilitate the situation. Scientists have found that fear is being overcome by strong emotions like joy and gratitude. Just look around you! The sun is shining, you are healthy and you have people around that loves you! You should be grateful! Everything will be alright! Give yourself a chance. Besides, fears make a situation look more frightening as it seems to be in the reality, and of course, they are not treated from one moment to another, but need strength, patience and persistence.
It’s very significant to reward ourselves, every time we make progress and find us one step closer to the fear. If nothing could help, asking a specialists, should be a good solution to alter the behavior and the thoughts. Don’t forget: Audacious is the one who is afraid, but manages to “fight” his or her fear.
Remember! With every experience in which you look fear in the face, you gain inner strength and confidence. So spread your wings, open doors and go for it! The opportunity is all yours.
