've not tried coffee grounds in probably a year. Back then I used grounds I got in a big bag from starbucks. I dried out them out and stored them in jars in the freezer. I would use one quart of spent grounds per brick of coir. I tried every which way of pasteurizing the substrate, from large_dose's stovetop bucket tek to RR's proper pasteurization video. No matter what I did, the top layer covering the grains would always get infested with trich.
Now that I've gotten my tubs dialed in and I can get my monos fully colonized within 4-7 days, I think it would be a good time to revisit coffee grounds and I thought I would share.
I'll be using one quart of coffee in my simple coir substrate recipe and pasteurizing it properly.
I'll use a 1:2 spawn ratio and mix it evenly. The grains will definitely get dunked prior to spawning. No top layer of substrate. The tub will colonize under a thick blanket for 4-7 days and then we'll see what kind of contams have grown
Trial One (Oak Hills variety)
Using a quart of dried coffee that I collected over the course of a few weeks of drinking coffee.
