BRITISH SINGER, FLORENCE WELCH

STORY: A cancer patient in Texas was in a for a massive surprise when she was visited at her hospital bedside by singer Florence Welch.

The Florence and the Machine star belted out some of her well-known tunes, including 'Shake it Out' and 'Dog days are Over', exclusively for 15-year-old Karinya Chen. She was accompanied on the guitar by Rob Ackroyd.

Chen had tickets to Welch's concert in Austin, but was told she was too ill to go. The hospital staff then got in touch with the English singer, asking if she could visit Chen.

"There were shrieks and squeals and so much joyous music and singing and tears and tears and tears of grief and joy and hope and love and utter devastation and somehow simple kindness made everything better," said Christie Kremer, the nurse practitioner at Hospice Austin, who had come up with the idea.

Chen's friends were present in the room to see Welch and sang along.
