What happened to Zac Cogswell?
I am sure some former WiredTree customers wouldn't mind taking a few slugs at him.

What a freaking tire fire that mess was.
Does anyone really know? He seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth.
i was one of the unlucky clients at wiredtree when it was sold. as irritating as it was to go through that kind of a sale, i would host with zac again. since wiredtree sold i have been with three different hosts. wiredtree was the definition of managed hosting, their support went way above and beyond what managed services generally are.
to be honest, in my opinion zac was one of the best hosts and i would love to hear he is doing good in life.

This was very true. A few others companies have come close, but WiredTree just had the perfect formula. Not only was it sad on their final outcome, but I also found it extremely odd for a company with a good name on here to buy them out, and then everything fell apart afterwards.
Totally agree there. WT was essentially the best host I'd used, right up until the period shortly before and certainly following the sale. Support was friendly, fast and really good at what they did. The new owner failed in many ways for me, and I left pretty soon after being migrated.
If Zac started again, I'd certainly consider using his new one, assuming the quality came from his direction.
Move over, coffee, this is a job for alcohol!

Liquidweb is equally good I believe. They offer the same level of support as WT. What could be wrong? Probably customers do not like a switch. Correct me if I am wrong.
.. Correct me if I am wrong.
This thread will give you many insights as to what went wrong.

At the time, and based on my own personal experience, no. It wasn't even close.

Have you tried KnownHost?
No, i have never used KnownHost. currently i have two hosts, one for close to two years the other one close to a year. very happy with both. one of these hosts i feel comes pretty close to what wiredtree was to me. i do not want to name hosts since that would be considered off-topic, i imagine.

The link in this thread will explain everything, and how it caught many of us of guard.
As I said then...I have not used LiquidWeb, so I can (or could) only go by comments I've read, and most were on the side of them being good, and having personal experience using WT, and only needing to leave because I outgrew what they could offer, I thought such news would have been a win-win.
We read about the classic buyouts and things falling apart, but a company that I also use was bought, and the end results was a win-win. If one company focuses on quality, and buys another company that also has the same mindset, why would anyone imagine that such a union would become a disaster. It then makes both companies look no better than the other train wrecks we read about.

I personally used WT a while ago (It was for a charity project that we needed a Dedicated for which no longer exists) after that, when the news came about i moved the gear to BigScoots.. My opinion, BigScoots schooled every other host (managed) that i've been with.
- Customer service, Goes above and beyond, not tickets, but issues fixed within 2-3minutes of opening a ticket and sometimes under a minute by Justin. Scott's a lovely person too and only reason i'm recommending them today is because they go above and beyond expectations and they are really really under-rated.

The price difference between them and KH is fairly huge when matching up the specs, so I'd hope it was substantially better.

I agree with you @bear although worth every cent and worth paying.

Liquidweb losing their quality but the price remain same.
Hello AdroitSSD LLC,
I am sorry to hear that. Could you provide me with your account number and perhaps some details as to why this may be the case? I want to ensure you are receiving exceptional service from Liquid Web. Feel free to message me with any details.
Have a great day!
Todd
hey all, just wanted to let you know I'm still here and doing quite well, thank you! Thank you for all the kind words about WiredTree too. It was an incredibly important and all-encompassing part of my life for over a decade and I'm glad it is remembered fondly.
I took some much-needed time off to spend with my young children and to prepare for new projects. After being at the front line of pager alerts for WT for so long, I have to admit it's nice getting sleep each night without being woken by some alarms Having said that, I miss the excitement and working with all of our awesome clients.
I don't have any hosting-specific plans right now, but who knows what the future will bring?
I never had a chance to meet you or work with you but from what I see here I sure did miss out. Wish you the best of luck in anything that you plan on doing down the line.

Time with family is most important - we only get so much time. Make the best of it!
Welcome back. I was one of your clients during the last months before your company sold. Just want to say thanks. I learned a lot from using your services. Calling your techs at Steadfast and having them fix something within minutes while i talked to them was priceless. I have had very brief conversations with Devon within the months after the WT sale and i hope he is well also. Devon was awesome because he would check in with us clients occasionally and see if all was well and if there was anything he could do to help us, long after he had made the sale. If you are interested in my viewpoint and experience with the WT sale look at my first post here at WHT, lots of details as to what happened from my perspective.
Please let us know if you decide to host again and i will probably be with you again. If you see or talk to Devon hire him for any new hosting you may do.
