The Guringai Festival, also referred to as the Gai-mariagal Festival, is an annual celebration dedicated to raising awareness about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Sydney's northern region. Founded by Susan Moylan-Coombs in 2001, this significant event begins on Sorry Day, 26th May, and runs until the end of NAIDOC Week in July. Over nearly two months, the festival showcases a variety of cultural events, including traditional performances, art displays, and educational workshops. With participation from 11 councils and multiple community and reconciliation groups, the festival provides a platform for celebrating Indigenous heritage, promoting reconciliation, and fostering cultural understanding. It stands as a testament to the rich traditions and ongoing contributions of Indigenous Australians.
