  1. The Hacker's Manifesto
  2. By The Mentor (a.k.a. Loyd Blankenship
  3. Another one got caught today, it's all over the papers.
  4. "Teenager Arrested in Computer Crime Scandal", "Hacker Arrested after
  5. Bank Tampering"...
  6. Damn kids. They're all alike.
  7. But did you, in your three-piece psychology and 1950's
  8. technobrain ever take a look behind the eyes of the Hacker? Did you ever
  9. wonder what made him tick, what forces shaped him, what may have molded
  10. him?
  11. I am a Hacker, enter my world....
  12. Mine is a world that begins with school... I'm smarter than most
  13. of the other kids, this crap they teach us bores me...
  14. Damn underachiever. They're all alike.
  15. I made a discovery today. I found a comupter. Wait a second,
  16. this is cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake it's
  17. because I screwed it up. Not because it doesn't like me...
  18. Or feels threatened by me...
  19. Or thinks I'm a smart ass...
  20. Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here...
  21. Damn kid. All he does is play games. They're all alike.
  22. And then it happened... a door opened to a world... rushing
  23. through the phone line like heroin through an addict's veins, an
  24. electronic pulse is sent out, a refuge from the day-to-day incompetencys
  25. is sought... a bored is found.
  26. "This is it... this is where I belong..."
  27. I know everyone here... even if I've never met them, never talked
  28. to them, may never hear from them again... I know you all...
  29. Damn kid. Tying up the phone line again. They're all alike...
  30. You bet your ass we're all alike... we've been spoon-fed baby
  31. food at school when we hungered for steak... the bits of meat that you
  32. did let slip were pre-chewed and tasteless. We've been dominated by
  33. sadists, or ignored by the apathetic. The few that had somthing to
  34. teach found us willing pupils, but those few are like drops of water in
  35. the desert.
  36. This is our world now... the world of the electron and the
  37. switch, the beauty of the baud. We make use of the service already
  38. existing without paying for what could be dirt-cheap if it wasn't run by
  39. profiteering gluttons, and you call us criminals. We explore... and you
  40. call us criminals. We seek after knowledge, and you call us criminals.
  41. We exist without skin color, without nationality, without religous
  42. bias... and you call us criminals.
  43. You build atomic bombs, you wage wars, you murder, cheat, and
  44. lie to us and try to make us believe it's for our own good, yet we're the
  45. criminals.
  46. Yes, I am a crimial. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is
  47. that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look
  48. like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something you will never
  49. forgive me for.
  50. I am a Hacker, and this is my manifesto. You may stop this
  51. individual, but you can't stop us all. After all... we're all alike.
