Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Godwin Emefile said on Thursday that the CBDC's e-naira will make Nigeria "one of the first countries in Africa to digitize its national currency."
When launched, this digital currency is expected to accelerate access to financial services and provide cheaper and faster inflow of remittances, according to CBN.
The launch of the CBDC will also ensure that the central bank retains control of the monetary system. The bank's website has an e-naira wallet that can be downloaded via Google Play for Android and the Apple App Store for iOS devices.
