Drink lots of fluids
Hydration is essential for our body, whether we have a fever or not. If you have a fever, it is because it helps to lower it. Also, it is important to note that having a fever can lead to fluid loss and, as a consequence, dehydration. Hence, specialists recommend drinking a large amount of liquid during this process.
One of the best way to ingest liquid is through the ingestion of herbal teas. For this reason, we recommend that, when you have a fever, you drink antiseptic and expectorant herbal teas that help lower the fever. We are talking about elderberry, thyme, sage, mint, violet, coffee or rosemary. Although not only these plants are good for reducing fever, ginger root, in infusion, also acts to reduce fever.
To prepare an infusion, what we have to do is boil water, add a tablespoon of dried leaves or flowers of the plants to which we have referred and let the mixture rest for 5/10 minutes. Very simple, right?
You can choose to sweeten the infusion to your liking with honey or brown sugar. You can drink, if you have a fever, one of these tepid infusions 3 times a day.
If you prefer, you can opt for other drinks such as barley water or natural lemon and apple juice.
Get enough rest
Drinking plenty of fluids and resting are the two main recommendations that specialist professionals make to us when we have a fever. As we have previously commented, fever is an effort by the body to cleanse itself and cure itself of an illness. To help you do it as soon as possible, it is important that we rest and focus all our energies on recovering them from the infection, so during these days we completely discard the idea of physical exercise.
Wear light clothing and do not overcoat, change clothes if you sweat
One of the most common mistakes we make when we have a fever is to bundle up more than we normally do. It is necessary to avoid overcoating in order to facilitate the loss of heat from the body.
Therefore, in case we have a fever, we will wear light clothing, without overcoat and, very importantly, if we sweat we must change our clothes frequently.
Keep a cool and ventilated environment
In line with the previous section, experts recommend maintaining a medium temperature, neither too hot nor cold. Professionals recommend maintaining a cool environment, ventilating the room frequently. Of course, it is necessary to avoid that the contrast between the outside temperature and the home environment is very high.
Shower with lukewarm water
A shower or bath with lukewarm water will not only help us to relax and rest better, but also to regulate body temperature. We must discard both hot water baths and very cold water baths, the former because they can raise our body temperature, and the latter, because they can cool the skin and cause chills.
Damp cloths
Dampen a cloth in fresh water and add a few drops of eucalyptus essential oil and put it on the forehead, neck, groin and armpits. It will make you feel so much better. One of the home remedies that has been used the most throughout history. You too right?
Soothing lotion
Finally, mix a tablespoon of olive and a few drops of eucalyptus and lavender essential oil to apply on the skin. A soothing lotion with two medicinal plants as protagonists that will help you lower a fever.
