  1. 138. Acts Of Reparation To The Sacred Heart Of Jesus # 2
  2. (INDULGENCES: 5 years, each time - 2. Plenary, once a month, on the ordinary conditions,
  3. if the prayer is said every day for a month.)
  4. On the Feast of the Sacred Heart:
  5. (1. An INDULGENCE of seven years, when it is recited conjointly with the Litany of
  6. the Sacred Heart and before the exposed Blessed Sacrament. - 2. Plenary, if added
  7. the usual conditions. - Pen., 18 March 1932.)
  8. O sweet Jesus,
  9. Whose overflowing charity for men
  10. is requited by so much forgetfulness,
  11. negligence and contempt,
  12. behold us prostrate before Thy altar
  13. eager to repair by a special act of homage
  14. the cruel indifference and injuries,
  15. to which Thy loving Heart is everywhere subject.
  16. Mindful alas!
  17. that we ourselves have had a share in such great indignities,
  18. which we now deplore from the depths of our hearts,
  19. we humbly ask Thy pardon
  20. and declare our readiness
  21. to atone by voluntary expiation
  22. not only for our own personal offenses,
  23. but also for the sins of those,
  24. who, straying far from the path of salvation,
  25. refuse in their obstinate infidelity to follow Thee,
  26. their Shepherd and Leader, or,
  27. renouncing the vows of their baptism,
  28. have cast off the sweet yoke of Thy law.
  29. We are now resolved to expiate such
  30. and every deploreable outrage committed against Thee;
  31. we are determined to make amends
  32. for the manifold offenses against Christian modesty
  33. in unbecoming dress and behaviour,
  34. - for all the foul seductions laid
  35. to ensnare the feet of the innocent,
  36. - for the frequent violation of Sundays and holidays,
  37. and the shocking blasphemies
  38. uttered against Thee and Thy Saints.
  39. We wish also to make amends
  40. for the insults to which Thy Vicar earth
  41. and Thy priests are subjected,
  42. - for the profanation,
  43. by conscious neglect
  44. or terrible acts of sacrilege,
  45. of the very Sacrament of Thy divine love;
  46. and lastly for the public crimes of nations
  47. who resist the rights
  48. and the teaching authority of the Church
  49. which Thou hast founded.
  50. Would, O Divine Jesus,
  51. we were able to wash away
  52. such abominations with our blood!
  53. We now offer,
  54. in reparation for these violations
  55. of Thy divine honour,
  56. the satisfaction Thou didst once make
  57. to Thine eternal Father on the cross
  58. and which Thou does continue
  59. to renew daily on our altars;
  60. we offer it in union
  61. with the acts of atonement
  62. of Thy Virgin Mother
  63. and all the Saints
  64. and of the pious faithful on earth;
  65. and we sincerely promise to make recompense,
  66. as far as we can with the help of Thy grace,
  67. for all neglect of Thy great love
  68. and for the sins we and others
  69. have committed in the past.
  70. Henceforth we will live
  71. a life of unwavering faith,
  72. of purity of conduct,
  73. of perfect observance
  74. of the precepts of the gospel
  75. and especially that of charity.
  76. We promise to the best of our power
  77. to prevent others from offending Thee
  78. and to bring as many as possible to follow Thee.
  79. O loving Jesus,
  80. through the intercession of
  81. the Blessed Virgin Mary
  82. our model in reparation,
  83. deign to receive the voluntary offering
  84. we make of this act of expiation;
  85. and by the crowning gift of perseverance
  86. keep us faithful unto death
  87. in our duty and the allegiance we owe to Thee,
  88. so that we may all one day
  89. come to that happy home,
  90. where Thou with the Father
  91. and the Holy Ghost
  92. livest and reignest God,
  93. world without end.
  94. Amen.
