Ricardo Morly finished looking at Google Maps and Google Earth, locks his windows laptop, grabs his car keys from the entry table, and, hand written notes in hand, and exits the house through the front door. After locking up the house, he looks at his hands making sure he has everything he needs, then proceeds to his Jeep Cherokee.
"Damn, I have go to fix this," he exclaims in frustration as he fiddles with the driver side door lock, having broken off part of the key inside the lock weeks before.
He finally gets the door unlocked, gets in and before closing the door he reaches under the dash, pulling out the ignition switch dangling from the wiring harness. Using a hefty nail, he inserts it into the slot where the ignition tumbler linkage would normally go, and pushing the slider switch forward, starts cranking the engine.
After it cranks over a couple of times he pumps the gas pedal slightly, and the 4.0 litre engine comes to life, roaring loudly out of the rusted exhaust until the idle circuit kicks in and reduces the engine to idle a few seconds later.
Closing the door Ricardo reaches for the seat belt, buckles in, adjusts the rear-view mirror he bumped when getting in, then puts his Samsung Galaxy phone into the windshield mount, plugs in the battery pack, and opens Waze, the NAV app he uses daily. He punches in his destination, backs out of the driveway, and carefully heads north to the residential cross street that will take him to one of the main artery streets of the city.
