In this critical analysis, we explore the ongoing frustrations surrounding *GTA Online* on PC, focusing on the failure of BattleEye, the game's much-hyped anti-cheat system. Instead of protecting players from cheaters, BattleEye often disrupts gameplay by disconnecting legitimate users when a cheater becomes the host in the game's problematic peer-to-peer (P2P) network system. With disconnections happening frequently and a toxic community atmosphere growing, *GTA Online* is becoming increasingly unplayable for honest players. This article highlights Rockstar’s missteps and the desperate need for a better solution.
