Lionsgate, a leader in the entertainment industry, has announced that they have partnered with GoCoin to integrate Bitcoin payments on their online shop for DVD and Blu-ray discs. Customers that pay with Bitcoin will receive a 25% discount on their orders during the special limited time promotion. In addition to online sales, Lionsgate is also considering the addition of Bitcoin and Blockchain technology into merchandising activities. Lionsgate had total revenue of $2.6 billion in 2014.

Lionsgate Vice Chairman Michael Burns commented stating:
“Whether they pay in dollars, francs or bitcoins, people are spending more money to watch content across more distribution platforms than ever before, and our goal is to offer them greater choice in what they watch, where they watch it, how they watch it and how they pay for it, our acceptance of bitcoins at our online Company shop reflects our commitment to offer greater choice, convenience and accessibility to our next generation consumers.”
GoCoin Founder and Chief Executive Officer Steve Beauregard Lionsgate added:
“Lionsgate has proven itself to be an innovator among Hollywood studios in its content, marketing and business strategies, and we’re delighted to partner with a company that shares our vision of a currency ecosystem that offers consumers the power of choice, the Lionsgate rollout couldn’t come at a better time, as GoCoin’s merger with Ziftr offers an integrated digital coupon loyalty platform to incentivize consumer use of digital currency.”
lionsgateThis partnership will allow Lionsgate customers to pay for select movies and television series with digital currency with a discount during the launch promotion. The promotion does not extend to any purchase made on the shop, but other products can still be purchased with Bitcoin outside of the promotion titles. This is a move that might cause more companies in the movie and television business to accept Bitcoin for titles.
