  2. Life is a stream
  3. On which we strew
  4. Petal by petal the flower of our heart;
  5. The end lost in dream,
  6. They float past our view,
  7. We only watch their glad, early start.
  8. Freighted with hope,
  9. Crimsoned with joy,
  10. We scatter the leaves of our opening rose;
  11. Their widening scope,
  12. Their distant employ,
  13. We never shall know. And the stream as it flows
  14. Sweeps them away,
  15. Each one is gone
  16. Ever beyond into infinite ways.
  17. We alone stay
  18. While years hurry on,
  19. The flower fared forth, though its fragrance still stays.
