  1. uTorrent is what is known as a BitTorrent client. The client is a piece of software that communicates with other computers via a server. In order to download torrent files, you need a BitTorrent client.
  2. There are many different BitTorrent clients available, one of which is uTorrent.
  3. This is a very quick guide on how to use uTorrent to download files. The first thing to do is open the app and perform a speed test. This is done by navigating to Options, Setup Guide, Perform Speed Test. When this is completed, make a note of what your connection speed is.
  4. Next, in the Speed Guide, you need to select the speed that best corresponds to the number you retrieved in your speed test. Now choose a port number somewhere in the acceptable range (between 49512 and 65535) – Type in a number that is somewhere in between them and test your port number.
  5. The next thing you need to do is to Enable encryption. Encryption is the process by which your client disguises your actual connection speed. If you want to download files faster, you need to enable encryption by clicking the box and then selecting ‘Use Selected Settings.’ You can also speed up uTorrent by setting up port forwarding. If you enable uPnP on uTorrent and your router, that will automatically port-forward the ports for you when you start the uTorrent application.
  6. All you need to do now is setup where you want your downloaded files to end up. If you navigate to Options, Preferences, Downloads and just select where you want to put your files.
  7. Ok, that’s the preparation work done. Now onto the meaty stuff!
