  1. Binary Tutorial (Part 2: Converting Base 10 to Binary)
  2. This will be the second part of my binary tutorials. It would be helpful for you to have read the first tutorial before this one. The first tutorial is linked below.

  4. This will be a fairly short tutorial that will simply discuss how to convert base 10 values into binary. Let’s get started.
  5. First, we’ll begin by converting a simple number, like 14, into binary. The method that I use (and recommend) will be the method we will be using in this tutorial.
  6. The first step is to write the base 10 value down, and begin cutting it in half until it reaches 1. IMPORTANT: Ignore all remainders. Some examples of this step can be found below.
  7. 1 3 7 14
  8. 1 2 5 11
  9. 1 3 6 12
  10. Now that you have halved the number down to 1, you put binary values underneath the factored digits to find your final result. For odd numbers, put a 1, for even number, put a 0. Example below.
  11. 1 3 7 14
  12. 1 1 1 0
  13. The example above successfully converts 14 into binary, which is 1110. To check you work, you can convert the binary value back into base 10 to see if you did it right. Once again the first part of the tutorial is linked above. Some exercises and answers will be provided below.
  14. 1. 18
  15. 2. 27
  16. 3. 5
  17. 4. 15
  18. Answers:
  19. 1. 10010
  20. 2. 11011
  21. 3. 101
  22. 4. 1111
