  1. WordPress keeps sendmail processes?
  2. I have some accounts which seem to keep sendmail processes somehow. A lot of processes like this:

  15. However, when I checked in /home/USERNAME/.php, there are several log files, but all of them are 0 size, nothing in the content.
  16. The only thing I can see in common in those accounts is that they are running WordPress. There is no cronjob setting up in the hosting control panel. Checking in WordPress cron, it looks like the default crons, nothing special.
  17. However, due to these processes, those accounts are having less memory for the real web requests from users.
  18. Any idea where I can find out the reason of these sendmail processes, please?
  19. You mentioned that these are "accounts" running wordpress, so I take it it's more then one site.
  20. Based from my experience I managed to resolve it when I noticed a vulnerability.. someone generating a lot of traffic for it somehow i'm guessing hitting a registration page or similar for mail confirmation.
  21. I fixed it by clearing the mail manually. I think /var/spool/mqueue normally with sendmail. A Lot of mail was lost though in the process :\ I'd try to check with the server admin and see if he notices anything..
  22. I'd keep an eye on it if I were you, because it's very strange if it 'all of a sudden' started happening. Have you searched out for any blacklists? Let's hope not! You might have delivery problems for a while. Please let us know if you managed to resolve it!
  23. If this is all of a sudden;
  24. 1. Have you checked the mail logs to see what is being sent out?
  25. 2. Have you checked the account logs to see if anything suspicious is happening?
  26. 3. Is your Firewall setup to alert you on increased outgoing mail, or blocked from easily sending mail?
  27. 4. Do you know if the installations of WordPress (core, themes, plugins) are up to date?
  28. 5. Are the installations setup as add-on domains, or do they sit in their own account?
  29. Without direct access, most members can only guess what the issue is, but it will take looking through everything to also be sure nothing was hacked or exploited which is common with WordPress. You will have to be sure no backdoors are hiding anywhere, and you will also have to be sure your IP is not BlackListed, which will effect other customers on the server.
  30. Yes, that happens in several accounts, not only one. All they are using WordPress, single domain in each account.
  31. Checked exim log (/usr/sbin/sendmail actually pointed to exim), and there is no outgoing email.
  32. All core, plugins, themes are up-to-date. There is nothing suspicious either.
  33. The only thing is that sendmail keeps processes alive, and takes CPU, RAM, which I don't want, and assume that it's abnormal too. But cannot find out why and where I can change the config.
