  1. November 11, 1989
  2. ParaNet Information Service (Denver, CO)--This evening saw
  3. perhaps an unprecedented event in UFOlogy. KLAS-TV in Las Vegas,
  4. Nevada has been airing a UFO special during the evening news
  5. which began on Monday dealing with the UFO mystery and cover-up.
  6. The series, which has been covered by ParaNet, began its coverage
  7. with a history of UFOs beginning in the late 1940s and moving
  8. forward through the numerous sighting reports to the cattle
  9. mutilations, which was aired last evening. As promised at the
  10. close of last evening's show, George Knapp, a news anchorman for
  11. Channel 8 in Vegas, stated that a scientific person would be
  12. featured on tonight's program who has claimed to work at Area 51,
  13. the government's super-secret test range at Nevada Test Site at
  14. Mercury, Nevada.
  15. Indeed, quite a story was told by Robert Lazar, a physicist who
  16. claimed that he had worked on a project at Area 51 involving
  17. flying disks provided by alien intelligences.
  18. Over the last year, ParaNet has carried stories relating to
  19. possible involvement with the government in projects of this
  20. nature at the Nevada test site. Up to now, the stories have been
  21. of a very speculative nature. Although the material presented by
  22. Robert Lazar remains unconfirmed, enough information has been
  23. disclosed that ParaNet's large investigative staff in Nevada has
  24. started an intensive investigation into this release. Both Lazar
  25. (formerly known only as "Dennis") and Lear have appeared on
  26. Channel 8 -- Lear appearing on numerous occasions together will
  27. Bill Cooper discussing Lear's famous 'ET Hypothesis.' On a past
  28. KLAS-TV report, Lear was shown to have traveled to locations
  29. appearing to overlook the test site which purportedly provided a
  30. good view of the objects as they flew into the night sky. Lear
  31. attempted to shoot video of an object as it maneuvered through
  32. the night sky during last summer, however nothing was captured on
  33. the tape of a substantive nature. Lear also relates that his
  34. group was harassed by a Lincoln County sheriff following his
  35. attempts to take the pictures.
  36. Below is a transcript of the program that aired this
  37. evening. All paragraphs out of quotes are the narrator of the
  38. segment. We were as accurate as possible on the transcription,
  39. however there are a couple of places where comments were edited
  40. out due to inability to understand what was being said.
  41. Further reports will be provided as information becomes
  42. available.
  43. =================================================================
  44. We've been working on the story for some time....UFO
  45. researchers claim that there is a secret government within our
  46. government. Now this may be hard to believe coming from the UFO
  47. perspective, but we have learned that Watergate and the Iran
  48. Contra scandal that factions within our government can and do
  49. pursue their own hidden agendas outside of the law; outside the
  50. control of the Congress or the knowledge of the American people.
  51. This is exactly the type of operation that we hear about tonight.
  52. It's a chilling scenario with worldwide implications that may
  53. have its roots right here [Las Vegas, Nevada].
  54. Area 51, that mysterious corner of the Nevada Test Site, is
  55. no longer considered a secret. The fact that secretive things
  56. go on here isn't evident; even to the Soviets who make daily spy
  57. flights over the facility to take a peek at what's going on.
  58. These photos, never before shown in public, are about as close as
  59. anyone will ever come to seeing what the place looks like again.
  60. The dry bed at Groom Lake, the corrugated buildings, a three-mile
  61. long runway and some highly sophisticated radar and detection
  62. equipment. Its been known by many names over the years --
  63. Dreamland; The Ranch; The Skunk Works. If ever there was a place
  64. to test the secret new technology, this is it. And that's
  65. exactly what has been done here for decades.
  66. Area 51 is where Francis Gary Powers and the other U-2
  67. pilots were trained in the 50s. And, where the U-2 itself was
  68. developed. The SR-71 spy plane that spotted Soviet missiles in
  69. Cuba in the early 60s were also developed at 51. 51 is where
  70. Stealth technology was nurtured, where Star Wars devices are
  71. still tested, and where all manner of CIA [unknown] business has
  72. been plotted and refined. It's the perfect place for secret
  73. things, but of course, that's no secret. 51 is ringed by the
  74. forbidden vastness of the Nevada test site; by the looming Groom
  75. Mountain and by sparsely populated desert expanses. But the
  76. people that do live out here have no love lost for the military,
  77. but they're conservative, patriotic and they mind their own
  78. business.
  79. Interviewer questioning a nearby resident of Area 51: "Ever see
  80. something that you can't explain?"
  81. Resident: "Sure, lots of times."
  82. Interviewer: "Care to elaborate?"
  83. Resident: "No." (Laughter).
  84. On any given night at the Rachel Bar and Grill, you might
  85. find three or four people who work at Area 51. They are among
  86. the flowing Budweiser and the cowboy hats. You might find them,
  87. but they are not going to talk to. Not about the things that
  88. they have seen over the mountain. A steady trickle of curiosity-
  89. seekers flows through here; strangers, drawn by strange stories
  90. of lights in the night sky. Their questions also go unanswered.
  91. No one who has worked at Dreamland has ever publicly acknowledged
  92. what so many people have suspected for years: That alien
  93. technology is being tested in the Nevada desert.
  94. The speculation first surfaced in documents obtained by UFO
  95. researchers. Documents about something called Project Aquarius.
  96. The document allegedly prepared for an organization called MJ-12,
  97. states that a program to fly recovered alien spacecraft was
  98. established in 1972 and is continuing in Nevada. The National
  99. Security Agency has confirmed it does have a Project Aquarius but
  100. denies that it has anything to do with flying saucers. NSA will
  101. not say what Project Aquarius is.
  102. Speculation was heightened in 1984, when the Air Force
  103. seized nearly 90,000 acres around Groom Lake. The action was, by
  104. most accounts, illegal. During Congressional hearings about the
  105. land grab, Congressman John Siberling grilled the military about
  106. the legal authority used in the action and was told the authority
  107. was at a much, much higher level than the Air Force.
  108. Siberling asked what authority is higher than the laws of the
  109. United States? The Air Force official said he could respond, but
  110. only in a closed briefing. In 1987, when the Air Force sought to
  111. renew its stranglehold on the Groom range, news articles once
  112. again mentioned the talk about alien spacecraft and subsequent
  113. articles in national magazines quoted un-named sources about
  114. things of alien origin flying in Nevada. Things that would make
  115. film-maker George Lucas drool. Despite the speculation, no one
  116. who knew Area 51 from the inside ever talked publicly about the
  117. saucer story.
  118. Bob Lazar: "Well, there's several uh, actually nine uh flying
  119. saucers, flying disks that are out there of extraterrestrial
  120. origin." The live interview with the shadowy "Dennis" drew
  121. international attention. Portions were broadcast by radio in six
  122. European countries, and in a nationally televised TV special in
  123. Japan.
  124. Despite numerous inquiries and "feelers," "Dennis" has
  125. remained anonymous until now. His real name is Robert Lazar. A
  126. young scientist with eclectic interests. The choice of "Dennis"
  127. was an inside joke -- he says that's the name of his superior at
  128. Groom Lake. It wasn't a joke to Dennis.
  129. Lazar: "He called right after and said, 'Do you have any idea
  130. what we're going to do to you now?' and I said no, and he hung up
  131. the phone."
  132. Lazar's story is by any standard, fantastic. He says he's
  133. telling it in order to protect himself. He said he was hired to
  134. work in area called S-4 which is a few miles south of Groom Lake.
  135. At S-4, he says, are flying saucers, anti-matter reactors and
  136. other working examples of technology that is seemingly beyond
  137. human capabilities.
  138. Lazar: "Right. This stuff came from somewhere else. I know it
  139. is hard to believe, but it is there and I saw it. I know what
  140. the current state-of-the-art is in physics and it it can't be
  141. done."
  142. Checking out Lazar's credentials proved to be a difficult
  143. task. He says he holds degrees in physics and electronics, but
  144. the schools that we contacted say they've never heard of him. He
  145. says he also worked as a physicist at Los Alamos National
  146. Labs where he worked with one of the world's largest particle
  147. beam accelerators, a half-mile long 'behemoth' capable of
  148. generating seven-hundred million volts. Los Alamos officials
  149. told us they have no record of Robert Lazar ever working there.
  150. They were either mistaken or were lying. A 1982 phone book from
  151. the Lab lists Lazar right there among the other scientists and
  152. technicians. A 1982 news clipping from the Los Alamos newspaper
  153. profiled Lazar and his interest in jet cars. It, too, mentioned
  154. his employment at the Lab as a physicist. We called Los Alamos
  155. again, and an exasperated official told us he still had no
  156. records on Lazar. EG&G, which is where Lazar says he was
  157. interviewed for the job at S-4, also has no record. It's as if
  158. someone has made him disappear.
  159. Lazar: "Well, they're trying to make me look non-existent to the
  160. places that I called...."
  161. Interviewer: "Explain. Called where?"
  162. Lazar: "Well, the schools that I went to; the hospital that I
  163. was born at; past jobs, and nothing comes up with my name on it."
  164. He smiles, but out of futility, knowing the whole thing must
  165. sound ridiculous. According to Lazar, his employer was the
  166. United States Navy. He says he and other government employees
  167. would gather near EG&G, fly to Groom Lake, then a very few people
  168. would get into a bus with blacked out or no windows and drive to
  169. S-4.
  170. Interviewer: "You get off the bus, what do you see?"
  171. Lazar: "A very interesting building. Its got a slope of
  172. probably about 30 degrees which are hangar doors, and it has
  173. textured paint on it, but it looks like sand. It's made to look
  174. like the side of the mountain that it is in, whether it's to
  175. disguise it from satellite photographs or what...."
  176. He says he was never told exactly what he would be working
  177. on, but figured it had something to do with advanced propulsion.
  178. On his first day he was told to read a series of briefings, and
  179. immediately realized how advanced the propulsion really was.
  180. Lazar: "The power source is an anti-matter reactor. They run
  181. gravity amplifiers. There is actually two parts to the drive
  182. mechanism. It's a bizarre technology. There is no physical
  183. hookups between any of the systems in there. They use gravity as
  184. a wave using wave guides that look like microwaves."
  185. It took awhile, Lazar says, before he actually saw one of
  186. the flying disks, however there were hints everywhere.
  187. Lazar: "Right. They had a poster, and it looked like a
  188. commercial poster, like it was lithographed, like you could buy
  189. it at K-Mart or someplace, but they were all over the place and
  190. it had the disk that I coined the term 'the floor model' which
  191. lifted off the ground about 3 feet out at the area, in the Dry
  192. Lakes area, and the caption on it said 'They're here.' These
  193. posters were all over the place."
  194. Later, he got to see the real thing.
  195. Lazar: "When I was led in, it was the first time that I saw the
  196. 'floor model' in the hangar sitting down, and I was told they
  197. could have walked me in the front door but they purposely wanted
  198. to walk me by it. I was told not to say anything and to keep my
  199. eyes forward and walk past the disk to the office area. And I
  200. did. And as we went by it, I just kinda stuck my hands on it,
  201. just to run it alongside the thing and uh ....After that I got to
  202. see actually lift off the ground and operate."
  203. Interviewer: "You actually got to see more than one?"
  204. Lazar: "Yeah. The hangars are all connected together. There
  205. are large bay doors between each one. There were nine total that
  206. I saw, each one being different. Like they had the assortment
  207. pack."
  208. Security at S-4 was oppressive Lazar said, and his superiors
  209. used fear and intimidation almost as a brainwashing tool.
  210. Lazar: "They did everything but physically hurt me."
  211. Interviewer: "They put a gun to your head?"
  212. Lazar: "Yeah."
  213. Interviewer: "You mean they actually put a gun to your head?"
  214. Lazar: "They did that even in the original security briefing.
  215. Guards there with M-16s. Guys there slamming their fingers into
  216. my chest, screaming into my ear, they were pointing weapons at
  217. me. Like I said, it's not a good place to work."
  218. That fear factor would surface later. Lazar agreed to
  219. undergo a polygraph exam as part of this report. Polygrapher Ron
  220. Clay asked about the technology that Lazar had seen.
  221. Polygrapher: "Did you knowingly lie when you had actually seen
  222. anti-gravity propulsion in operation?"
  223. Lazar: "No."
  224. The results of this exam were inconclusive. Lazar appeared
  225. to be truthful on one test; deceitful on a second. Clay
  226. recommended that a second examiner be brought in. Polygrapher
  227. Terry Tabernetti (sp?) runs a corporate security operation and is
  228. a former Los Angeles police officer. He put Lazar through four
  229. tests and concluded there were no attempts to deceive.
  230. Tabernetti sent his test results to a third polygrapher who
  231. agreed the results appeared truthful. The charts were then sent
  232. to a fourth examiner who did not agree suggesting that Lazar
  233. might be relating information he'd learned from someone else.
  234. The polygraphers concurred and decided they would not issue a
  235. final statement on truthfulness until more specific testing can
  236. be conducted. And that's where it stands.
  237. Tabernetti believes the difficulty in determining Lazar's
  238. truthfulness stems from the fear that was drilled into him.
  239. Lazar: "Well, I am telling the truth. I've tried to prove that.
  240. What's going on up there could be the most important event in
  241. history. You're talking about contact, physical contact and
  242. proof from another planet, another system, another intelligence.
  243. Thats got to be the biggest event in history, period. And, it's
  244. real and it's there. And I had an extremely small part in it.
  245. I'm convinced that what I saw is absolute proof of that. There
  246. is no way that we could have created those disks. There is no
  247. way we could have made the disks, the power supplies, anything
  248. that goes with it."
  249. Lazar says he has no intention of going on any UFO lecture
  250. circuit. He is not looking to do any additional interviews. In
  251. fact, he was not too crazy about doing this one. He did it after
  252. certain unfavorable things started happening in his life, and he
  253. did it because he feels that whoever is running the show up at S-
  254. 4 is perpetrating a fraud on the American people and the
  255. scientific community.
