Making Money With Shopify Dropshipping w/ AliExpress & FB Ads 2019 - AMA
I've been a long time lurker here, trolling around the Making Money threads mainly trying to find the best and cheapest way to make money. I've done almost all of it, and made so many mistakes, but by far the greatest 'Money-Maker" for me has been Shopify and selling products.

I don't know why it's to fulfilling making a sale, like some merchant back in the old days. I feel like i'm some shady seller in a bazaar or something selling people the next best thing and i always get the biggest grin when someone takes the bait.
Just for context, this was one of my shops from 2018-2019:
Facebook ads for the same time period:
All the haters can reverse google search it, it's 100% legit dashboard and it's all from 1 product. Yes, that's right folks 1 lousy consumer product that i pushed till the end of time. (Unbranded)
Now, it's not all sunshine and rainbows, i went through so much nonsense because apparently this product is 'restricted high risk' according to many payment providers, including Shopify, which let's be real, can do anything on their platform for any reason and you just got to go with it.
I honestly could make an entire course on all the obstacles i had to endure to get this trash up and running, but i'm over it.
That being said, i'm kind of the 'Old Guard' When it comes to selling stuff on Shopify, i still use Oberlo & Dropified, Track After-ship and ofcourse Aliexpress. For some reason everyone's saying the shipping times are too long' and customer service blah blah blah, which is like maybe 1% of all the customer's who order on your shop. Honestly, you can get away with a lot, even fake being an actual supplier since most payment processors hater drop-shippers now.
In regards to this store, I might sell this store to someone who's interested in continuing it, but i don't know. I'm still trying to figure out if i should make those silly shopify courses you see on facebook 'EARN 6 FIGURES WITH SHOPIFY $$$$$" You know the type, or if i should just sell the mammoth and be done with it.
Realistically, i could make like 10 stores right now, have 1k a day ads running to them and convert like crazy, but i just don't have the capital for that, nor the man-power. I'm at a money making standstill right now. Where are you?
Anyways, Yeah, ask me anything you'd like regarding Shopify Dropshipping, Aliexpress, Payment Processors, Warehouses, How to get started.
Do you have a method to sell cbd stuff with fb ads?
Realistically you want products that can be sold all year round. Usually go for something people DONT need, but would make there lives SLIGHTlY easier. Those types of products dominate the online store market. If you don't have enough brains for that, then just go to Aliexpress and they have dropshipper support now where the site recommends you items to push onto your platform. You can either do that, or just search up a category, go for the product with the most orders and push that on your website. It's always good to ask the supplier for any promotional material, like videos mainly as they work best on FB ads.
I have found no other platform that works best with shopify than FB ads.
It's always easy to get into the game, but much much harder to STAY in the game.
Are you a fan of all of those urgency plugins for shopify?
When did you apply as a business? or did you ever?
What payment processors do you accept?
Are you using any fulfillment warehouses at the moment?
Was facebook ads your only source of traffic?
For your product, did you just use the same photo from ali or did you take your own photos?
I am also starting my own shop soon. Could you look over it?
Ok thanks bro. Yeah I know everybody tells to find something original, but everything is being sold on shopify right now, that's quite impossible to find product that don't have competition. Even if you sell private jets you will face huge competition.
Unless it's an illegal product, you will always have a ton of competitors.
Anyway that's not a problem there is space for everyone

Yeah i have my own business where i'm located and all the funds get processed on there. But it still has to be done through payment processors to submit the payments.
Right now i got PayPal & a mix of Stripe & 2checkout. I'm doing some cloaking testing so i can get around the 'stripe restricted business' constraints, so i'll see if it works or not yet.
Yeah, i use Chinese suppliers. They can deliver within like 10 days, so they're getting better. they understand they need to be faster so be more competitive so, it's fine using them.
Yes, i only use Facebook ads. Everything else sucks honestly.
I used the same photos, and i just used snippets from similar products online that had video ads , put it together in a video editting software, put some happy trendy music and used that for an ad. It's been working so far (relevancy score of 8-9) so yeah.
Sure, pm me a link. It's honestly mostly about the ad. If the shop is simple then the sale will be simple.

Hey. Good luck bro.
How do you choose niche? (Something you like or software helps you)
How much do you rely on blackhat?

Nah, why are you being so defeatist? Even if they own a bit of market-share, you can carve out your own easy. The internet is vast, unless it's like a super specific niche product. Never gear your website around one niche, keep it road so you can keep testing new products. Just find a product everyone buys, run a few interests on fb ads for a week, 25 bucks a day, see which ones are good. I gaurentee you'll find a sweet spot. Getting sales has never been a problem for me, it's just getting those damn payments is lol
Hey. Good luck bro.

Like i told the other guy, find a product that can be bought all year round. Forget niches and all that trash. Keep is broad so you can test around. Go to Ali, find a category and find what's been selling lately. Find or create ads for that product, test interests on fb for a week, so what sticks.
I use blackhat mainly for engagement like, facebook likes, reviews, instagram likes, twitter retweets, followers etc. Create an environment of trendy people who have genuine interest in what you're selling. My mantra is, your first customer is your last customer, so get as many as you can through the door and out of it.
Right now i got PayPal & a mix of Stripe & 2checkout
Assuming you're from India, how are you using stripe? And if you have stripe why are you using 2checkout on the same store?

You assuming my country bro? haha. I'm from Canada, Don't worry, i throw off many people.
And yeah, like i said i got tons of stores, this is just one of the bigger ones i'm testing 2 checkout with, just to see if they can handle the load without restricting me.
I got a smaller clone, where i'm testing Stripe, using a product cloak so they can't see the restricted products when they do their review or whatever. Don't know if it'll work, but yeah.
You can get Stripe if you're in India as well, btw. Account are available on this forum for like 100-200 dollars.
PayPal is connected to both. If it weren't for that, i'd be dead in the water

how much start up $ would you recommend to start with for somebody completely new? That is including tools + traffic.

Uh. Depends. Let's say you want to realisticaly test the waters of this dropshipping ocean.
Shopify sub + Domain + Apps = $100 (Alot of the apps are free trials so this figure is approx)
Facebook Ad testing a brand new product = $700 ($100 daily ad spend for testing)
Cost of Goods = $700 (Depends on your sales, product and profit marign)
That's the best estimate i could give for 1 week. A lot of it is up to you. Like 700 COG is just the max amount you can put into the aliexpress pocket (paying for goods without constantly pinging you credit card). Facebook ads you can go higher or lower, i usually do like 5 different ad sets interests at 25 bucks each, worldwide audience for 1 week. See what sticks. And the shopify is all free trials for the first 7 days. You can ask for a full refund at the end of it and most likely they'll give it to you.
So $1500 USD for a running start.
P.S
Once you've estatblished youve got something, THEN invest in likes, followers etc. Make sure you have something before you go hard. At the end of the 7 days, you should be getting the payout for your first day sales, so yeah.
Hey. You do make it sound easy...
Do you focus on website looks/presentablity?
Do you focus on making it look legit/trustworthy?
Have you focused on niche items that can be stocked in different variations (other than clothing); like different colors, shapes, design, etc.? Would this type of store be a great idea?

Dropshipping is easy. I should get around making courses or something but i'm just so lazy and don't know where to begin lol Honestly, it's just about finding the right product with the right ad. It doesn't even need to be original. You can cut out market share with fb ads, that's the best part of it
Nah, that hardly matters. Keep it simple and use the basic themes Shopify offers. You can add more convenience apps like currency conversions. translation, cart popups etc. But i find all these so tiring and useless, it doesn't really convert much else. Upsells are usualyl the only thing you really need to think about when presenting a store.
Yeah, you can do trust badges, but people usually just gloss over those. Better yet to have reviews in the footer like the Aliexpress review app offers. That's honestly the only thing people look at, the product in the hands of past custoemrs saying nice things. Everything else should look plain. Just take Amazon or ebay for example, they keep it simple too.
Um. Colors and variants matter. If you can't find variants, it's not the end of the world, i usually just set stock to zero and change the name to SOLD OUT so people think i'm running out of stock lol. Works like a charm. Yeah, clothing you'll want to stay away from, honestly the less personalized an item can get, the better. It's best to go for generic item with 1-2 color themes then offer so many options. People response to 3 options and their interest falls off when there are more. I'm more of a broad, general store kind of guy because i like to test multiple products, and i find people respond to them more as times change and their interests evolve.
How do u speed up shipping process. In case you use agent can u recommend any one ?
Are you ready to sell one for your small stores which you don't use and support to set up FB ads ? @@
I'm really new in this biz and don't know how to start it.
Thanks and good luck.
Nice bro i have some few questions i would be glad if you can answer them . Thanks
You mentioned going for broad niche. How broad do you recommend ? e.g like selling electronics or selling TV electronics alone .
What do you think about other source of traffic like pinterest ,bing, twitter, google and instagram ads etc ?
Do you really need an old account to work with facebook ads, i hear they always ban every new account.
Lastly Does all your facebook account get banned after a while and how do you keep making new ones and if not how do you make sure they last ?

I don't know why people don't do this, TALK TO YOUR SUPPLIERS! Again these guys aren't complete morons, they know if you go to another guy they will lose all your business and will fight to keep it and if they don't then they're not worth your time,. Use that business relationship. If you'e bought from them before and raise legitimate concerns over timing, customers etc. they may be able to do something for you. One of my suppliers had a warehouse in the U.S and he said it'll cost be 5 dollars extra per order, which is pretty good considering american's are some of the worst customers haha. You don't need an Agent honestly, you need to have relations with every supplier that you order from.
Hi Bro

The thing about smaller stores is that they'll cost you a pretty penny as well (XX,XXX). All my stores run off a central product which i research a lot for on my main account and then move onto a newer one with just that one ad and one product. And ofcourse camouflage products just incase the reviewers come by haha. I look at every angle of the business and try to maximize every customer coming in because i know that first one will be my last.
PM me and we'll talk turkey.
Nice bro i have some few questions i would be glad if you can answer them . Thanks

So in your example i would be selling the tv electronics alone, however with 1-2 upsells that go with it, such as a remote to operate the tv, HDMI cables etc. I try to centralize my product line with one or two products, however i do not create an entire store based on that niche. So let's say you want to sell electrontics and you have a tv to sell with all your upsells, don't name and theme your website "ElectronticTVCablePros" or some random garbage. At one point the product will die off and your store, plus all the data on your ad account/pixel will be useless. Keep is broad, all year round products.
I've never done anything more than FB ads, mainly because i like results instead of traffic lol. I'm trying Instagram ads, but it's a pain in my ass trying to get those guys to buy. But i'll have more news later after my tests. That being aid, optimize your shop for mobile users, almost 80% of my traffic i mobile, so FB and insta are your best bet.
You have an old Facebook account right? Use that account to open up a business account, just google Facebook business account. It'll tie your account with it. As long as you spent round 100 bucks a day for about 2 weeks and slowly increase your budget by doubling and following all their rules, you'll be fine. It's only when someone creates a new facebook account, sets up a new ad account and then smashes 1-5k daily ads, does the account get banned.
If you follow all their rules, you can spend as much as you want and keep the account going forever. I did use some copyrighted videos one time and i got banned permanently, no warning, just boom. So make sure you change up any videos you take. I've been using a custom ad i made since then and everything has been going great. However, if you want to black hat it, then you can expect your ad account to last MAX 2-4 weeks depending on your exposure. (How much you're smashing it on FB) Usually i make like 10 ad account after i've spent a bit on my first one. You can create multiple business accounts and have multiple d account with multiple pixels. Not that difficult is you spend money on the platform.
