The exorbitant rise that the price of electricity and gas has experienced in recent months has already had an impact on the shopping basket, with basic products such as oil that have become 20% more expensive; in the rental income, which face monthly increases of 27 euros on average; and now it threatens to sink the meager profit margins of the industry, already hit by the blow inflicted by the pandemic.
Following in the wake of the United Kingdom, several Spanish factories have decided to reduce their production in the most expensive hours of the day and even schedule temporary shutdowns of their activity. This circumstance could cause, in turn, the departure of many companies to other countries where production costs are lower and the destruction of jobs in the coming months, warn trade unions and business associations.
