The social-media maven chatted with Ryan Seacrest about the news of the day, their personal lives, and more. At one point in the episode, Seacrest asked Kardashian West about North and Saint West’s sibling dynamic and whether it was anything like that of the Kardashian sisters growing up.
“So different, so different,” Kardashian West immediately responded. “I mean, I don’t know if it’s because she’s the older sister. I don’t know what it is. I thought it was a phase. She does not like her brother.”
The audience let out a collective laugh. But, as Kardashian West continued to speak about the situation, it became clear that, for her, there isn’t much that’s funny about it.
“It’s so hard for me,” Kardashian West said. “And I thought it was like, OK, a couple months, she’s just warming up to it. She would get so jealous when I would breastfeed and all that kind of stuff. And now the phase isn’t going away.”
In most families welcoming a second child, it’s expected that the new older brother or sister will have a period of adjustment.
Often the older child will receive some gifts as well to help engender goodwill between him or her and the new baby. But what exactly do you do when everyone’s long since settled at home and still not getting along?
It’s a bit of a taboo subject. By now Saint West is 20 months old, meaning that 4-year-old North has spent almost two years with her baby brother. But many young families do in fact deal with this type of issue for years—not months—on end. It’s just not always openly talked about after a certain point. Maybe, though, thanks to Kardashian West, that’s about to change.
