THERE ARE MULTIPLE TYPES OF CURRENCY IN THE CRYPTO SPACE.
1. A REAL #cryptocurrency with its OWN functioning #blockchain and unique #technology .. HAS to be mineable or mintable.
2. A digital token (NOT a cryptocurrency) with a good business model that would attract investors and growth in the token because of the business model and NOT the cryptocoin itself. This would be like a decentralized stock... just trying to put it in a way.
3. A digital token which is TRYING to be a cryptocurrency with an alternative technology to the blockchain like Tangle and few others.
4. A digital token with a copied whitepaper/business model with some alterations here and there in order to try and extract quick funds through the glamorous ICO method.
Another way of differentiating them is cryptocurrencies or digital tokens which are listed as a 'CURRENCY' or as an 'ASSET' in coinmarketcap.
An ASSET is just a STORE of VALUE, whereas a CURRENCY ideally is used in FULL-FLEDGED transactions to buy goods/services.
This should help in classifying various types of coins in the digital realm.
