It's useful for on-page SEO but you still need to do off-page SEO.
Yoast is an absolute NO if you ask me.
Why do you say that? Personally I don't use Yoast, I use the All In One SEO Plugin.

Could you please explain why? Because I'm currently deciding whether to buy its premium subscription or not. I've been using it for a couple of months and it seemed to do the job.
Yoast often makes the pages over optimized and unnecessarily flood everything with keywords. And not to mention the recent versions of Yoast are hazardous with other plugins of Wordpress.
I use for all of my blogs and i like it. It does a good job with on-page SEO and shows me where i could improve. No complains!
I use it free. It takes me almost as long to fill in the blanks and do a checklist as it does to write a small article.:D

Exactly! I am completely agree with it. This is the reason I have uninstall yoast completely from my WordPress Blog.

Go for 'All in One SEO Pack'. This plugin may be look simple and has no fancy visual touches like Yoast. But it gets the job done and also this plugin will never master you around saying where to put keywords or not.
It's the best plugin I have used so far for on-page SEO.

It is great plugin if you are new to seo otherwise, i don't see any use of it.
