  2. c. The probabilities associated with NS, NO, and DV
  3. are used to determine whether words should be selected
  4. from these dependent types. For each dependent type, the
  5. random number generator is called to generate a number
  6. ranging from 1 to i00. If the random number is greater
  7. than the probability associated with the dependent type,
  8. the type is ignored. Otherwise a word will be selected
  9. from this type. Let us assume that all three types have
  10. passed the probability test.
  11. d.l. A noun is to be selected as the subject of verb
  12. 3336. If the sentence to be generated is the first sen-
  13. tence of a paragraph, a noun which is in the dependent
  14. list associated with the verb 3336 and also a member of
  15. C16 is chosen. However, if the sentence is a noninitial
  16. one, the procedure CRITERIA is called to form a probability
  17. reweighting table on the basis of the criteria applicable
  18. to the verb 3336 and to this local structure (i.e., a
  19. VT dominates an NS). All candidates (those words which
  20. belong to C16 and which are in the dependent list associa-
  21. ted with 3336) are first assigned an equal weight. Then
  22. the probability reweighting table is used to adjust the
  23. weights of the candidates. Fig. 4(b) shows the candidates
  24. for the node NS. An individual word is ~andomly chosen
  25. from the candidates based on their different weights:
  26. word number 2625 whose internal address is 317.
