In 1757 Benjamin Franklin was sent to London by the Pennsylvania legislature to speak for the colony about a tax dispute with the governor. Franklin spent most the next 18 years in Britain as a kind of unofficial ambassador. Franklin Enjoyed the cultural life of England but he soon became worried about corruption in the ruling classes, especially the treatment of the Irish, which worried him about the future of America. As ambassador to Britain, Franklin argued that American Citizens were loyal subjects of the British monarchy and should have more representation. As America’s relationship with Britain started to decline, Franklin sailed back to America in 1775 just a few months before the American Revolution began
