  1. how to create my own OneDrive or Cloud Service
  2. not using MS or Google, but similar functionality to ms onedrive

  13. of course the free space runs out quickly ... i've not used goodgle drive, but i assume it can work in the same way.
  14. i know that upgrading to larger space is relatively cheap, however ... the following factors apply to me (and i imagine many others here at WebmasterWorld)
  15. i like to have complete control over my data
  16. i have spare server storage capacity and bandwidth
  17. just because most people are doing something, (eg googledrive or onedrive) i don't think it is always the best way
  18. my question is: is there an easy way of setting up my web server as a cloud file/storage? - just for myself and maybe a few family members (not as a commercial setup)
  19. currently i'm on a centos server with win10 computer and both iphone and android devices (which ideally i'd like to be able to connect to the centos cloud)
  20. i have searched online obviously - as i spend my life online, like many here! and there are so many options!
  21. ... so is anyone already doing this and can they recommend anything in particular or are they willing to share their setup for this?
  22. Take a VPS with Plesk.
  23. It comes with fixed IP (the main problem here) and ready-to-use file sharing service.
  24. It shouldn't cost more than $10 (Dropbox fee, for example) and you get 10 domains hosting for testing purposes.
  25. There are a number of open source alternatives. The best known is Owncloud but there are several others: [opensource.com...]
  26. In addition to the above, one I actually use is Sparkle share. [sparkleshare.org...] It stores the files in a git repo so is very useful for text and similar but (as they say) its not good for lots of large binaries which are what usually make people run our of space.
