  1. The HSMUN•ROME program is professionalizing training aimed at high school students, developed following the simulation of UN negotiations.
  2. In accordance with the guidelines outlined in L. 107/15 on work related learning, the program enriches the curriculum of the participants with learning by doing activities that are functional to university orientation and to the admission in an international work context.
  3. Students have to behave like real UN ambassadors. A “cooperative competition” where the students face the same important themes that Italy, member of the UN, has to face. In this way the participants get acquainted with an international point of view that will inspire their future as European and Global citizens. At the same time, students will acquire specific skills that increase their level of professionalization and that will allow them better integration in the world of employment.
  4. Curriculum
  5. The training course is articulated in the following modules:
  6. The UN system: role and structure of the UN from a historical, legal and political point of view.
  7. Research and editorial techniques: how to do complex research aimed at writing technical and political papers.
  8. The art of diplomacy: creation of consensus and analysis of the decision making process at an international level.
  9. Legal editorial techniques: criteria and techniques for writing regulations.
  10. Speech and Public Speaking: strategies to improve team working abilities in English and to improve one’s aptitude to leadership.
  11. Rules of Procedure: learning technical and procedural mechanisms in order to work actively in work groups improving problem solving abilities
  12. The meetings will take place, in the afternoons and on a weekly basis, in the university of the region where the school is based. The lessons will be held by university teachers and by experts in the different fields of interest.
  13. Individual work supervised by a Tutor
  14. Once the techniques to conduct a complex research have been learned, each participant will start looking for the sources necessary in order to write documents that express the political point of view of the country represented in the simulation, in diplomatic jargon known as position papers. During the process of researching and writing a position paper, the student is assisted by the Tutor. At the end the document is checked by the International Relations teacher that has the task of supervising the students’ work. The documents are marked in order to be valid for the issuance of certification.
  15. Work on Cloud platform
  16. During the training course the students do exercises on a Cloud Platform. Following the learning by doing learning process, the participants have to put into practice what they have learnt in all the modules. The exercises on the Cloud Platform are supervised by experts of the different subjects and they are marked in order to be valid for the issuance of certification.
  17. Simulation Work HSMUN•ROME
  18. At the end of the training course students from all over Italy gather in Rome. For three days the students are engaged in work sessions that replicate faithfully the work of the committees at the UN. Following fully the leaning by doing philosophy, the students put into practice all they have learnt in the previous months, from editorial techniques of technical and legal documents to strategies to create consensus around one’s opinions. During the work sessions there will be meetings with different experts and events that will help university and work orientation.
