Many people who are in a need of finding a certain telephone number are not sure which book should they choose. Currently, there are three major colors of books distributed in the United States. Each of them has it's own features and is intended to keep different listings. In most states these books are given away with no charge, but there are actually states where people are forced to pay if they want a Yellow pages for example. Among these three types which I mentioned the biggest difference is between Gray Pages and others.
So the gray pages are simply for reverse searches, which means that it will not be possible to get a printed version of it. However there are tons of websites which offer free trial or entire free service. Upon a few seconds you receive details about virtually any person in the US. The prices for such a service are very varied, since there are companies who charge as low as $4, but you can also meet companies which charge much more. You should always remember to check what exactly they offer for the price and whether is it worth paying so much money. It is also advised to check whether the records in their database are updated. Many companies bought a database of phone numbers a few years ago and still offer the same untouched records which means that the their data is utterly useless. You will never be satisfied with inaccurate records.
Yellow pages are intended to keep only business listings. The directory usually don't contain all companies registered in US, but only these who allow to pay a small fee to be listed in the Yellow pages. There are not many information about such companies, but almost always you will be able to find at least business phone number, business address as well as the type of their commercial activity. The Yellow pages are mostly used as a directory of different business - when you need a plumber you just open a certain category for your city an choose among the listed experts. It is also possible to obtain a digital version of Yellow pages as well as access it in the Internet. However the latter may require a little payment, depending on the website you choose.
White pages is similar to Yellow pages, but instead of business listings it contains residential listings. Very important thing here is to remember that White pages include only residential phone numbers, there is no chance of finding a cell or unlisted phone number. The law just doesn't permit such things.
