After the guard George Zimmerman acquitted by a court in Florida announces U.S. Department of Justice that it will resume its investigation of the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. The investigation – initiated shortly after Martin’s death, but put on hold during the judicial process in Florida – will determine whether federal prosecutors can prosecute for civil offenses.
Martin’s death, then, as in the famous case of Rodney King in the 90′s, taken up at the federal level, although Zimmerman acquitted at the state level.
Last Sunday began America’s oldest civil rights organization, the NAACP a petition to get the Justice Department to take up the case.
