What Did You Do To Your Cacti Today?

Share whatever else you'd like.
Today I misted my Bridgesii seedlings and did my daily watering of the pereskiopsis forest. But that didn't satisfy my addication so I cut a pup from a Lophophora Williamsii graft and put it onto a Pilosocereus cactus. I'm aware it's not best candidate for fast growth. Did my daily scan of all my cacti and noticed that my Myrtillocactus geometrizans cv. FUKUROKURYUZINBOKU is already growing and starting to show signs of a new set of boobies :boobs: and potted the bottom half of the cactus today. I'm planning on grafting the new offshoots onto pereskiopsis and possibly gonna try a few areola grafts in the future since my graft is going strong.

Just noticed you changed your title to badass.:thumbup::lol:
Im still at work and in the middle of a lawn renovation but when I get home I'll no doubt be watering all my pereskiopsis grafts and checking to see if any of the 20 trichocereus cuttings I have rooting haven't fallen over. The entire cactus garden got watered yesterday and some got their first fertiliser for the season. Spring is here in kangaroo land.:sun:

Today was such nice weather in Kangaroo land :tongue:
My Bridgesii has grown around 3-4cm since the weather has gotten better!
But I also fed it and watered it and i have around 40 baby Pedro Hybrids that are growing fine :smile:

i just got back from work and took the bandages off my lophophora cristata kada cloneA grafts.
all gone. dead. no grafts took and now i dont have it anymore. i am :sad: :tearchalice:

today I cut a bunch of pups from my sempervivum and replanted them. I also moved them in a new spot so they can take over the entire area:grin:

Today I set up shelving to prepare the winter home for some cacti.
The lophs are all moved inside, and also any seedlings that were in the greenhouse.

I misted my peruvianus seeds, and rotated my pachanoi, which I watered a couple days ago. (I have a pretty small cactus tribe still, but will be picking up a williamsii var. caesposita in a couple months!)

Started propagating my faster pereskiopsis clone; will hopefully cut them again next week.
My slower clones will be used for my non-competing seedlings but will no longer be propagated.

For those that want to mass propagate pereskiopsis here's a little tip. (Not the a faster way but you get a more in the long run and will be less wasteful)
After taking a cutting you should remove the lower leaves to place the cutting into the soil. When you remove the lower leaves remove them with some of the stem. A small surface cut will be enough. After 2-3 months each of those leaves will be its own grafting stock. You can simply pull the leaves however if enough of the areole is not removed it will only root but may not pup.
A few weeks after taking the leave cutting

Today I re-grafted this lopho onto a Pilosocereus.
Left the bottom areolas to hopefully get some pups like last time :smile:
Also sprayed the second treatment of Organocide on all my cacti and plants it seems to be very efficient with controlling my mite infestation :smile:

I checked up on my tiny little lophophora fricii cristata graft onto pereskiopsis. Looks like it stuck. I used the saran wrap/ clothes pin method.

Very NICE. Did you get the lophophora fricii cristata from seed?
The saran wrap method has also increased my success rate. However for tiny trichocereus seedlings I cant do a flat graft since the seedling will get crushed under the pressure; lophos and other globular cacti don't have this problem. So I tried doing a side cut on the seedling and laid it on top of the pereskiopsis and it took :smile:. I'll post a picture later.

No. From a thai vendor.
I also checked up on my astrophytum caput medusae seeds and 3 days later 2 have germinated. Thses seeds always have good rates.

Don't give up on the seeds... try giving the seeds a nice shower of water slightly lightly soaking them. After the third week I got some new bridgesii seeds to germinate, though most popped up after the first week. How many have you sown?
Hope at least 1 of my astrophytum caput medusae seeds germinate since I only have 5. I have gotten near perfect germ rate from astrophytum seeds so I have high hopes.

Will do, I mist every second day, keeping them in bags. The odd perlite granule is greening from algae. :frown:

25. My thinking is that even with less than optimal conditions, at least 1 would have germinated by now. I don't think I've done anything horribly wrong. 16 hours light either indirect sun or direct CFL right over top. Temperatures average 75ish, slightly cooler at night. Seeds are in mostly sand, small amount of organic matter, perlite. Seeds scattered on top, top-dressed with a sprinkling of sand (1mm or so).

i also grafted a 2 yr old baby button from the el oso coahuila locale onto pereskiopsis.
and i cut off leaves of one pereskiopsis plant with aereoles in tact.
thanks to you modern i will have pereskiopsis for eternity.:bow:
