  1. A question about bran.
  2. #17783916 - 02/11/13 05:24 PM (19 hours, 58 minutes ago)
  3. When we inoculate whole grains, the mycelium eats the bran and leaves the starch inside, is that right?
  4. If so, what if one was to use just bran instead of grains? Would all of it be consumed by the mycelium?

  16. Most fungi can "eat" almost any carbohydrates including cellulose starch lignin dextrose maltose etc. As well as hydrocarbons ( petrochemicals). They are the ultimate non selective feeders

  32. Yes, we use bran as a supplement for just this reason. We want the mycelium to have access to a ready food supply during colonization which runs out at fruiting time. Remember, too much supplement impedes fruiting.
  33. However, grains work better as spawn since their shape allows them to be shaken and poured for grain to grain transfers or inoculations.
