According to the 2015 edition of the World Intellectual Property Indicators, China has topped the list in the number of new patent applications in 2014. Patent offices received the highest number of applications from China at 9,28,177, followed by the US at 5,78,802 and Japan at 3,25,989. Innovators filed 2.7 million patent applications worldwide in 2014, up 4.5% from 2013.
