I'll try to keep this short, but for the record, I have a very small business, family owned. Back in 2011 when I registered my Quickbooks 2010 they sold me on a Pro Plus Subscription. All was well for a few years, but I guess I should have realized how bad their support is and how useless their data protect is for me. This year I thought about it and decided cancel quickbooks online wasn't worth it, and that I really only used the upgrades, which I was told was the same amount as the subscription, so it makes no sense for me to have it. Basically I would cut down to upgrading every few years. I called today because I was auto renewed. I asked why, I got the upgrade during last year's cycle, which was paid for already, so shouldn't I get to keep using the version I have. They say no because it was part of a subscription. My other option is to cancel it, have them refund the money for the subscription and pay another amount less than the subscription but not by much to get a desktop version of what I'm using now. I don't think this is fair because I feel I paid for the upgrade already with last year's renewal fee. The way I see it is. You have a magazine subscription. So since I paid for this for 4 years, why shouldn't I be able to use the version I have if I cancel. I probably sounds pretty naive but that's a whole different story altogether. Which version are you using now. Do you have a license number for it. If that's the case, and it's registered, then I don't see how canceling their shitty support subscription would affect that. But that's just based on my limited knowledge of how the licenses have worked for me. Any specific reason you're using the desktop version. The online version has gotten much better in the past year. When I did this, they sent me an email with a licenseproduct and validation code. cancel quickbooks online I don't know if I registered it, I think I did, but when I try to register it now and use the validation code they gave me it says it's not valid. I started using the desktop version a few years ago after being fed up with Peachtree and not knowing wtf I was looking at. When I went to register it in 2011, they sold me on the subscription and the auto upgrade every year sounded nice so I stuck with it. To be honest, I like this version. I just don't like what Intuit is doing to me. It seems pretty easy to use and convenient, but doing the numbers, it makes more sense to just bite the bullet and buy the desktop version and then reassess in a few years. This brings up a window with lots of data, included whether it's registered or not. The Quickbooks company file is easily corrupted, so if you stick with the desktop version I suggest you make regular backups. The bank downloads system in the online version is just worlds better than the desktop. It grabs the transactions automatically, and they're sitting there waiting to be categorized. The online version also becomes your accounting platform. There are lots of super great integrations between Quickbooks Online and other cloud services. One of the most annoying parts of the cloud is that every service can't always talk with each other. This means you end up with multiple databases of things like customer info and other data. It turns into a mess. For example: for my practice I use Quickbooks Online, Bill. Those are just some good examples for me. There are many other integrations that tie cloud services together with your common set of data in Quickbooks. When cancel quickbooks online cancel the account, or cancel the recurring billing, they deactivate your license number. You'll need to pick up Quickbooks Pro. That's the regular desktop version without the recurring billing.
