  3. The hike was gorgeous and my mom and I got there just in time to see the sun set behind the mountains! However, one will also be sweetly rewarded upon completion of these couple miles of the trail as the next five are perfectly groomed singletrack where you can simply waltz into Glen Aulin. Then onward past Nevada Falls and then Vernal Falls.
  4. During the late afternoon a thunderstorm formed and dropped a short intense batch of rain, with hail in some spots according to the hikers coming in from Glen Aulin. It was the best sunset of the trip. There are two needles in each fascicle bundle.
  5. We pushed on past Upper Cathedral Lake, going a bit uphill and walked thru a large level meadow before ascending gently in treelined ridge. You can also search near a city, place, or address instead. We continue hiking this throughout the upcoming months, with an occasional 8 mile level hike on the Thursday August 5th: The 'Before' Picture To avoid driving all the way in one day, we drove from Pleasanton to Groveland on Thursday nite. Except for a few permanent structures, all the guest cabins, bathhouse tent and dinner tent are completely disassembled before the winter snows. But something caught his eye. Ranger and naturalist hiked through the region and selected locations for five more camps. Side Trips From Sunrise Camp…For Experienced Hikers Within 5 miles of Sunrise Camp there are several peaks that present interesting and challenging climbs. We used all the warm clothes we brought to sleep in, along with the sleep sack, and it was just enough. The steep climb warmed us immediately. Fishermen will do this anyway. The many beautiful pools offer exciting opportunities to catch good-sized rainbow and brown trout. Our neophyte legs squealed like a loose alternator belt.
  6. The Yosemite High Sierra Camps...Worldclass Hiking And Fishing - The High Sierra Camp trail from May Lake descends to the old Tioga Road and follows it down to Tenaya Lake, paralleling Highway 120 briefly.
  7. May Lake High Sierra Camp was constructed in 1938 and is one of five historic High Sierra Camps in. The site was chosen by Mary Curry Tresidder to replace the old Tenaya Lake camp. Boats were hauled in for guest use, but were later discontinued by request of the National Park Service. From the small ridge behind camp, guests were able to watch the Firefall at Glacier Point in the distance. Perfect for relaxing and fishing, the camp is a fantastic blend of hospitality and high country scenery. Towering above May Lake, Mt. Hoffman is the geographic center of Yosemite National Park and an excellent, though strenuous, hike for May Lake visitors. The ridge just behind camp has a grand view of the southern end of Yosemite and is a popular sunset spot for hikers and photographers. This is the easiest camp to access via a short, one-mile hike from the parking lot off Tioga Road and a great overnight family destination. All High Sierra Camp lodging is in canvas tent cabins with dormitory-style steel frame beds with mattresses, pillows, woolen blankets or comforters. To maximize the number of people able to enjoy the High Camps, we do our best to fill all the beds. The staff makes every effort to keep members of a party in the same tent sbut sometimes splitting a party is necessary. A satisfying dinner and breakfast are served family-style in a main dining tent while you meet and compare notes with other High Sierra Camp lodging guests. Every effort is made to accommodate advance requests due to may lake high sierra camp restrictions such as food allergies, vegetarian or vegan diets. Sack lunches, which must be ordered the night before they're needed, may also be purchased at each camp. Location Structure Access May Lake is part of a 50-mile loop of High Sierra Camps, spaced roughly 5. Located high in the Yosemite wilderness and accessible only by foot or saddle, each of Yosemite's High Sierra Camps feature a unique and spectacular setting. Due to high demand for these historic Yosemite High Sierra Camps, reservations are available on a lottery basis. However, if you miss the lottery process, please check during the summer season for last minute availability at the individual camps.
