  1. Has anyone else had serious downtime and quality issues with Knownhost Resller account?
  2. I've been with Knownhost for years and was happy with the VPS I had during that time. I moved over to the newly launched Reseller account (needing much less space and bandwidth than I had on VPS). Since then I've had numerous issues with downtime (shown via Pingdom) and sluggish response.

  14. Today has been the worst with unexpected reboots of the server and my entire reseller account being down at various times. I found out I am not able to move back to the original VPS-2 package I had, as they phased it out.
  15. I know the support guys are great, but has anyone had issues on the reseller side? Hate to think of moving to a more stable host (this time going back to VPS), as I've really had a good experience overall with KH over the years.

  20. I sincerely apologize for the issues you've experienced. I'm currently following up with our team about this now as we address this issue and will be following up in your escalated ticket shortly. We do still maintain our legacy VPS* product line althou actively sold so if you had one recently I'll gladly explore provisioning one for you.

  24. If you had a good experience with their VPS, then you may consider moving your reseller hosting account back to a VPS with them.
  25. A VPS offers more uptime and reliability than a reseller hosting account, applicable to any provider.
  26. Yeah - considering that. They have been great and on top of things when things do pop up. I'd rather stay with them on a VPS than move to be honest. Just wanted to make sure they're just as solid as always.

  31. Same here... I was just Googling about it and found this thread
  32. This is from uptimerobot, and I would say I catch 80% of the downtime when on laptop and the websites are really down. All of them at the same time.

  37. I signed for the highest tier Reseller Cloud RS-3 and figured it should be more than enough as I'm coming from cheap shared hostings. Few low traffic WP websites.
  38. From the usage stats it shows I use on average less than 10% of resources.
  39. I would be 100% happy customer if not this, as the support is great and helped me few times (with them since March).

  45. Wrong!
  46. Shared, Reseller Hosting, VPS or Dedicated Server should have the same up time time. Everything will depend on how the providers maintain the quality service they offer.
  47. If you offer good up time for your VPS and bad up time for your reseller hosting, then you should not be in the hosting business.

  53. Wrong!
  54. In case of full virtualization, a customer gets a dedicated kernel and filesystem for his VPS. In case of shared hosting, the same web server, FTP server, database server and other resources are shared among all users. This thread itself is a proof.

  57. So, that is your definition of up time and reliability? If it is, oh my.
  58. VPS is still shared within a dedicated server. The only difference is you can have your own specific configuration when it comes to software.
  59. With shared hosting, this is the reason you need Cloudlinux to protect each user and provide his own dedicated resources. Yes, it can be done in case you do not aware of it.
  60. Talking about the same web server, FTP, etc... this is how good administrators come in and how they tightly secure the software. It is a question of security. In fact, it can be easily maintained compared of giving a vps to a user who do not have any idea on what to do and putting risk to the rest of the VPS on a dedicated server unless of course, the vps is managed.
  61. This is why, I mentioned, it depends on the provider's knowledge and quality setup.

  68. When we have a single kernel, a spike caused by one of the tenants can affect the others. A good example is OpenVZ. If the load of an OpenVZ VPS spikes to 200 for example, the load average of all virtual servers hosted on the same node along with the node itself will spike.
  69. Consider a dedicated kernel environment like a KVM/Xen VPS. The load average of one VPS will not directly spike the load average of other machines unless there is a real shortage of resources on the node.
  70. Back to the point, the nature of the kernel, that is shared or dedicated plays an important role. CloudLinux offers an excellent solution for shared hosting, but I will still not compare it to having a dedicated kernel for every user.
