  1. The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has adjourned further proceedings in the N300 million suit filed by Suspected Kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike popularly known as ‘Evans’ against the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris and three others till Sept 21.
  2. In the suit, the suspected Kidnapper, Evans, challenged his continued detention since June 10without arraignment. He claimed that his parade on June 11 before journalists at the Lagos police command headquarters in Ikeja, without a court order, is unconstitutional and illegal.
  3. Consequently, he demanded that the court awards him N300m as exemplary damages for his alleged illegal detention and the alleged harm caused by his media trial.
  4. On Tuesday, The presiding Vacation Judge, Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court, Lagos adjourned the matter after holding that there was no more urgency for the suit to be heard during the vacation.
  5. The suit was filed during vacation and affidavit of urgerncy was attached with it, Evans, through his lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, is seeking a court order directing the police to charge him to court immediately or release him on bail if they are not ready to charge him to court.
  6. During the proceedings Justice Obiozor held that there was nothing urgent in the matter again, due to the latest development on the matter, the court therefore, adjourned till September 21 for further proceedings.
