  1. Eating wild mushrooms is very safe if you properly identify your finds, and extremely dangerous if you don't do your research.
  2. People who eat deadly mushrooms feel fine for 6 - 24 hours, then develop symptoms which resemble severe food poisoning. The poisoning from most toxic mushrooms is not life threatening and kicks in much more quickly, so if you or someone you know gets mushroom poisoning with delayed onset, go to the hospital immediately. Always save samples of wild mushrooms you eat so you can bring them to the hospital for identification should it become necessary.
  3. While Galerina marginata does stain blue where damaged, it often has a bluegreen stem that is covered in whitish mycelium which is easily rubbed off, giving the appearance of staining blue.
  4. The vast majority of deadly poisoning cases are caused by Amanita species which can resemble edibles.
  5. Amanita phalloides is the most common culprit.
  6. Amanita bisporigera is another common offender.
