There are actually numerous people who made the internet. To make something as grand as the internet, you’ll need the help of other capable people. But there is one man who started it all. Vint Cerf is the “Father of the Internet”.
Vint Cerf is an American citizen, born June 23, 1943. Cerf is the architect of the internet and the co-designer of the TCP/ICP protocols. He began working at the US’s Department of Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). There, he led the way in the processing of the internet. Both his friends since high school, Steve Crocker and Jon Postel, were instrumental in creating this huge technology that has literally taken the world by storm.
In 1992 to 1995, he served as president of the Internet Society and became Chairman of the Board for a single term in 1999. Cerf played a key role in the formation and funding of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in 1998 wherein he became chairman in 2000 to 2007. In 2005, he worked as chief internet evangelist and vice-president in Google. His role in Google is to identify new tech to support the growth of internet-based products and services.
He has worked with numerous organizations that are working to deliver humanitarian value to the world by means of the internet. Cerf supported projects that help in the fight of global issues, the changing nature of the industry, social issues, and other beneficiary experimental projects.
Cerf earned numerous awards in his entire career such as the Turing Award in 2004 for his amazing works for the internet. In 2006, he was inducted in the National Inventors Hall of Fame. He was also inducted as a pioneer in the Internet Hall of Fame in 2012.
Up to this day, Cerf still continues doing significant work to help progress the internet even further.
