  14. I want a storage for active services, so I need speed.

  16. The question is still a little bit ambiguous, do you wish to take backups of active services? In which case what should the consistency level be? Would you like to run a RAID/NAS setup or is this in a cloud hosting context?
  17. If you're looking for a cloud type solution, Ceph is a great choice with performance and redundancy benefits. https://ceph.com/

  21. Yeah, if you would post what you're looking for, we could help, but "storage software" is not really terribly helpful. That can be a ton of different things
  22. Instead of software, you should check the other available backup solutions. There are many third party backup providers which you can try. You can store backups on hosting server too but as you would like to store at other place, there are number of solutions for you.

  24. But we dont know if the OP wants a backup solution or not as they have not been clear to what they want

  29. Sorry for late response guys...
  30. I want a NAS storage for cloud hosting environment.
  31. I will make more diggings about ceph. If you have another proposals, I would be glad to hear them.
  32. Cachecade has significant performance implications, give that a look if you're using LSI RAID cards. One-time license fee and well worth it. You will need to ship and install a dongle, so if you're renting a dedicated server it might be an awkward spot unless your host is in on it.
  33. Thanks for response
  34. Open Source Storage Software? I like CEPH for distributed storage. That said it's not 'simple' nor is it really easy to manage - you can very quickly hose all of your data if you don't know what you're doing / are not careful.
  35. It's unlikely for cloud hosting that you would want to use NAS. You would be better off with SAN, so as other posters have said Ceph (a building block of OpenStack) is a very good choice.
