  7. Hi guys, was wondering if anyone else out there has encountered this DTC code. I've done a few searches both here, and on the net and only found one thread but the issue was never resolved. First encountered this code in early October, took it to the dealer where they performed a TSB for this code TSB not listed on the invoice , rechecked and the CEL was gone. Called the dealer to ask their opinion, they assured me it wasn't critical at the moment, so I cleared the code and went on my way. The CEL has now stayed off but the code keeps reappearing but NOT setting the CEL. Not sure of the threshold for the heater to run but this doesn't seem to be triggered by low temps. Thanks in advance, Jeff Turned out to be the heater assembly for the DEF tank. And of course the tank, heater, and pump are all one unit. If I weren't selling the truck I'd have done that exact thing. Dealer seemed to think that this would've been covered under the 40K emissions warranty I'm at 64k so if any of you guys start seeing a P20BA DTC code, get that thing checked out before your emissions warranty is up. Jeff My truck has had 3 of them replaced the last one on paid for by me. My argument was the manufacture has a 1 year warranty why is it not covered? I ask how they thought that happened. So a week later light on again. I told them not to touch my truck. I spent an hour crawling around under my truck with a flash light and found what was most likely the problem all along. When you have a part replaced under warranty, the warranty on that part takes on the remainder of the truck warranty. So if you have 2 months left on your warranty and a part is replaced, that part has 2 months left. Just to keep the information in this post accurate, the PUMP is NOT part of the reservoir and has nothing to do with the tank heater or the pressure line heater other than the fact that it is bolted onto the top of it. The tank heater is part of the Sender and Heater assembly also referred to as the reservoir. If you were sold a pump assembly they were either throwing parts at the truck for God knows what reason or they broke it. A Ford Dealer told me that only the reductant heater and sender needed to be replaced. So as of today I personally replaced that unit PN: BC3Z-5j225-L. The removal of the tank was relatively easy only 5 bolts. Did have to remove the fuel tank skid plate 8 nuts and 4 bolts. The challenging part was to carefully remove the wiring harness. Access is difficult and we all know how some of those connections can be a real pain to disconnect. I wanted to disconnect the main connector on top of the chassis but the connector is held in with one of those heavy duty tree shaped holders. Also it is virtually impossible to reach this connector as it is above the DEF tank on the inside rail of the chassis. I opted not to destroy this large one and have the connector rattling loose on the truck upon reassembly so I ended up removing all individual connectors I believe there are 6 of them that surround the pump assembly I started at the first one of the harness. As you disconnect each one you can lower the tank further and further as you gain more and more access to reach them all. Ones everything is loos all you have left is the DEF line from the pump. Ones this ha been done you can remove the whole DEF tank assembly. Removal of the pump is qty. A few soft blows loosens it. Replacement is basically everything in reverse with 2 new o-rings on the pump which are provided with the kit. Replacement screws are also provided with tie-wraps that hold the harness on the big plastic nut. I was care full enough that I could reuse then orginal ones. With basic mechanical skills this a repair anyone can tackle and save a bunch of money. Cleared the codes and so far the errors have not returned. After disconnecting it I found a lot of dirt inside the housing. I wonder if it caused intermittent or bad electrical connections. My check engine light did go off one time during a travel trip for about 1000 miles but then came back on. I ohmed out the heater at 2. My conclusion is that the problem is with the sensors. I took some readings on the bad one but without a wiring diagram or understanding of how they work it is difficult to figure out. The connector is a 8 pin with 1 not installed. That leaves 5 wires for what I could observe 2 level sensors. One is full length. If anyone has a wiring diagram and what the resistance values should be would be greatly appreciated. Sir, Since I live in Fl, would the heater be a requirement for the pump to operate? We use data about you for a number of purposes explained in the links below.
