6. EXT FRONT OF CAROL’S HOUSE SAME DAY
STEPHEN IS SEATED BY THE CORNER OF THE GATES OF THE HOUSE WITH A SAD EXPRESSION IN HIS EYES. MOMENTS LATER, CAROL DRIVES HER CAR TO A STOP IN FRONT OF THE HOUSE AND STEPHEN RISES TO HIS FEET TO MEET HER AS SHE TURNS TO FACE HIM…
CAROL
Stephen, what are you doing seated out here in the sun? Is there any problem?
STEPHEN
(Sighs) Carol, I am sorry I have come to disturb you again today. But I need your help desperately if I must live to see tomorrow.
CAROL
Please don’t scare me, Stephen. What is the matter?
STEPHEN
I am hungry, Carol. So hungry I could literally swallow a horse and still remain hungry. I haven’t tasted anything in two days now.
CAROL
(Smiles) So this is just about food? Please don’t scare me like that again because of food o.
STEPHEN
(Sighs) Carol, you don’t know how hard life is for an aspiring actor. Especially one at my age.
CAROL
You didn’t get the job you went out to audition for yesterday?
STEPHEN
(Sighs) It was today and as usual, I couldn’t land a role. I couldn’t land any role at all and to top it all, the director told me I don’t have any talents to succeed as an actor.
CAROL
Waoh! He told you that to your face?
STEPHEN
Yeah. To my face and the faces of the over thirty people watching my audition. (Exasperatedly). I really believe in my abilities as an actor but I don’t know what to do now.
CAROL
(Sighs) I understand your frustrations, Stephen. But I am going to ask you never to let go of your dreams no matter what.
STEPHEN
Well, that would depend on how fast I can get some food and drink into my stomach. The way my tummy is rumbling, my dreams tonight might be horrific if I don’t get some food to eat soon.
CAROL
(Laughs) God forbid! Forgive me for doing this long talk out here with you. Let’s go inside and talk while you eat.
STEPHEN
Thanks.
HE OPENS THE GATES FOR HER AND SHE DRIVES INSIDE. HE WALKS IN AFTER HER…
