  1. Credit Card Fraud:
  2. -----------------
  3. For most of you out there, money is hard to come by. Until now:
  4. With the recent advent of plastic money (credit cards), it is
  5. easy to use someone else's credit card to order the items you have
  6. always desired in life. The stakes are high, but the payoff is
  7. worth it.
  8. Step One: Getting the credit card information
  9. First off, you must obtain the crucial item: someone's credit
  10. card number. The best way to get credit card numbers is to take
  11. the blue carbons used in a credit card transaction at your local
  12. department store. These can usually be found in the garbage can
  13. next to the register, or for the more daring, in the garbage
  14. dumpster behind the store. But, due to the large amount of credit
  15. card fraud, many stores have opted to use a carbonless transaction
  16. sheet, making things much more difficult. This is where your
  17. phone comes in handy.
  18. First, look up someone in the phone book, and obtain as much
  19. information as possible about them. Then, during business hours,
  20. call in a very convincing voice - "Hello, this is John Doe from
  21. the Visa Credit Card Fraud Investigations Department. We have
  22. been informed that your credit card may have been used for
  23. fraudulent purposes, so will you please read off the numbers
  24. appearing on your Visa card for verification." Of course, use
  25. your imagination! Believe it or not, many people will fall for
  26. this ploy and give out their credit information.
  27. Now, assuming that you have your victim's credit card number, you
  28. should be able to decipher the information given.
  29. Step Two: Recognizing information from carbon copies
  30. Card examples:
  31. [American Express]
  32. XXXX XXXXXX XXXXX
  33. MM/Y1 THRU MM/Y2
  34. JOE SHMOE
  35. [American Express]
  36. XXXX XXXXXX XXXXX
  37. MM/Y1 THRU MM/Y2
  38. JOE SHMOE
  39. Explanation:
  40. MM/Y1 is the date the card was issued, and MM/Y2 is the
  41. expiration date. The American Express Gold Card has numbers
  42. XXXXXX XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXX, and is covered for up to $5000.00,
  43. even if the card holder is broke.
  44. [Mastercard]
  45. 5XXX XXXX XXXX XXXX
  46. XXXX AAA DD-MM-YY MM/YY
  47. JOE SHMOE
  48. Explanation:
  49. XXXX in the second row may be asked for during the ordering
  50. process. The first date is when the card was new, and the
  51. second is when the card expires. The most frequent number
  52. combination used is 5424 1800 XXXX XXXX. There are many of
  53. these cards in circulation, but many of these are on wanted
  54. lists, so check these first.
  55. [Visa]
  56. 4XXX XXX(X) XXX(X) XXX(X)
  57. MM/YY MM/YY*VISA
  58. JOE SHMOE
  59. Explanation:
  60. Visa is the most abundant card, and is accepted almost
  61. everywhere. The "*VISA" is sometimes replaced with "BWG", or
  62. followed with a special code. These codes are as follows:
  63. [1] MM/YY*VISA V - Preferred Card
  64. [2] MM/YY*VISA CV - Classic Card
  65. [3] MM/YY*VISA PV - Premier Card
  66. Preferred Cards are backed with money, and are much safer to
  67. use. Classic Cards are newer, harder to reproduce cards with
  68. decent backing. Premier Cards are Classic Cards with Preferred
  69. coverage. Common numbers are 4448 020 XXX XXX, 4254 5123 6000
  70. XXXX, and 4254 5123 8500 XXXX. Any 4712 1250 XXXX XXXX cards
  71. are IBM Credit Union cards, and are risky to use, although
  72. they are usually covered for large purchases.
  73. Step Three: Testing credit
  74. You should now have a Visa, Mastercard, or American Express
  75. credit card number, with the victim's address, zip code, and phone
  76. number. By the way, if you have problems getting the address,
  77. most phone companies offer the Address Tracking Service, which is
  78. a special number you call that will give you an address from a
  79. phone number, at a nominal charge. Now you need to check the
  80. balance of credit on the credit card (to make sure you don't run
  81. out of money), and you must also make sure that the card isn't
  82. stolen. To do this you must obtain a phone number that
  83. businesses use to check out credit cards during purchases. If you
  84. go to a department store, watch the cashier when someone makes a
  85. credit card purchase. He/she will usually call a phone number,
  86. give the credit information, and then give what is called a
  87. "Merchant Number". These numbers are usually written down on or
  88. around the register. It is easy to either find these numbers and
  89. copy them, or to wait until they call one in. Watch what they
  90. dial and wait for the 8 digit (usually) merchant number. Once you
  91. call the number, in a calm voice, read off the account number,
  92. merchant number, amount, and expiration date. The credit bureau
  93. will tell you if it is ok, and will give you an authorization
  94. number. Pretend you are writing this number down, and repeat it
  95. back to them to check it. Ignore this number completely, for it
  96. serves no real purpose. However, once you do this, the bank
  97. removes dollars equal to what you told them, because the card was
  98. supposedly used to make a purchase. Sometimes you can trick the
  99. operator by telling her the customer changed his mind and decided
  100. not to charge it. Of course, some will not allow this. Remember
  101. at all times that you are supposed to be a store clerk calling to
  102. check out the card for a purchase. Act like you are talking with
  103. a customer when he/she "cancels".
  104. Step Four: The drop
  105. Once the cards are cleared, you must find a place to have the
  106. package sent. NEVER use a drop more than once. The following are
  107. typical drop sites:
  108. [1] An empty house
  109. An empty house makes an excellent place to send things. Send the
  110. package UPS, and leave a note on the door saying, "UPS. I work
  111. days, 8 to 6. Could you please leave the package on the back door
  112. step?" You can find dozens of houses from a real estate agent by
  113. telling them you want to look around for a house. Ask for a list
  114. of twenty houses for sale, and tell them you will check out the
  115. area. Do so, until you find one that suits your needs.
  116. [2] Rent A Spot
  117. U-Haul sometimes rents spaces where you can have packages sent and
  118. signed for. End your space when the package arrives.
  119. [3] People's houses
  120. Find someone you do not know, and have the package sent there.
  121. Call ahead saying that "I called the store and they sent the
  122. package to the wrong address. It was already sent, but can you
  123. keep it there for me?" This is a very reliable way if you keep
  124. calm when talking to the people.
  125. Do NOT try post office boxes. Most of the time, UPS will not
  126. deliver to a post office box, and many people have been caught in
  127. the past attempting to use a post office box. Also, when you have
  128. determined a drop site, keep an eye on it for suspicious
  129. characters and cars that have not been there before.
  130. Step Five: Making the transaction
  131. You should now have a reliable credit card number with all the
  132. necessary billing information, and a good drop site.
  133. The best place to order from is catalogues, and mail order houses.
  134. It is in your best interest to place the phone call from a pay
  135. phone, especially if it is a 1-800 number. Now, when you call,
  136. don't try to disguise your voice, thinking you will trick the
  137. salesperson into believing you are an adult. These folks are
  138. trained to detect this, so your best bet is to order in your own
  139. voice. They will ask for the following: name, name as it appears
  140. on card, phone number, billing address, expiration date, method of
  141. shipping, and product. Ask if they offer UPS Red shipping (next
  142. day arrival), because it gives them less time to research an
  143. order. If you are using American Express, you might have a bit of
  144. a problem shipping to an address other than the billing address.
  145. Also, if the salesperson starts to ask questions, do NOT hang up.
  146. Simply talk your way out of the situation, so you won't encourage
  147. investigation on the order.
  148. If everything goes right, you should have the product, free of
  149. charge. Insurance picks up the tab, and no one is any wiser. Be
  150. careful, and try not to order anything over $500. In some states,
  151. UPS requires a signature for anything over $200, not to mention
  152. that anything over $200 is defined as grand theft, as well as
  153. credit fraud. Get caught doing this, and you will bite it for a
  154. couple of years. Good luck!
