Kevin Walsh was moments away from suicide, until a call from a girl he met at camp wound up saving his life.
According to InsideEdition.com, Walsh from Indianapolis was between 5 to 10 seconds away from taking his own life, and he said, “Nobody but her could have spoken a word of reason to me.”
“I was like, ‘At least she’s talking to me; she’s the prettiest girl I had ever seen,'” Kevin said. Kevin and Blake wound up remaining friends after the summer and they kept in touch through AOL Instant Messenger until they saw each other the following summer at the same camp.
They exchanged numbers and texted here and there but eventually, the pair lost touch. Towards the end of high school, Kevin fell into depression and became suicidal. He told Inside Edition he contemplated ending his life for a month before he wrote a note and decided to slit his wrists.
That fateful day, Kevin received a call from Blake. “I was basically staring down the barrel of my own mortality,” Kevin said, but then he answered the phone. “It was her. We hadn’t talked in a year and the one person I believed I would have opened up to called at that exact moment I had let everything go and was at peak vulnerability.”
Kevin admitted to Blake that he was about to take his own life and luckily that day he decided not to kill himself. They agreed to speak the following day and ever since then the couple agreed to visit one another despite living in different cities.
In 2015, Kevin proposed to Blake on a trip to Switzerland and five months later they were married. “I love you,” Kevin told Blake. “Also, thanks for saving my life.” Blake added: “I think it’s a true example of a force in the universe intervening and connecting us. I get goosebumps every single time I talk about it.”
