  1. We’re all trying to shed those post Christmas pounds after a few weeks of over-indulgence.
  2. But January is such a miserable month to diet. It is dark and cold and all you want to do is eat. Am I right?!
  3. Well, there is a way to shed the weight without having to drastically change your diet.
  4. Pro-organiser Peter Walsh says you can lose a significant amount of weight from just decluttering and tidying up.
  5. In his book, Lose the Clutter, Lose the Weight, 22 participants shed an average of 10 pounds each over six weeks by just re-organising their homes when they combined that with moderate exercise and some meal prep.
  6. Experts often cite ‘a clean house’ as a pillar of wellness and nutritionist Keri Glassman, R.D. claims it could well help you trim down.
  7. ‘A behavioural and physiological chain reaction is put into motion by having a streamlined space,’ she says.
  8. What she means by this is the ‘domino effect’ of having a messy home space. If you are constantly trying to find clothes in a jammed closet, you’re having to iron them in a hurry, this leaves no time for breakfast and you’re running late heading to work (sound familiar?). All this makes your body release cortisol, the stress hormone, which is also responsible for storing fat.
  9. On the flip side, if you are more organised you have more time to eat a healthy breakfast to maybe go for a walk etc. It seems rather obvious when you think about it!
