A glitter a glimmer a shimmer of a once upon a time
I took a walk this morning along the canal side
In the distance I saw a form a figure sitting on the lock
Throwing pebbles and watching ever decreasing circles
Shoulders hunched like the burden of the world was upon him
I thought to walk past but something caught my eye
A glitter a glimmer a shimmer of a once upon a time
A voice from my heart stopped me in my tracks
I reached out to touch him hesitantly
Then drew back my hand in time
Just a shadow of the man I once knew
Lost lonely afraid down and out in the cold
The world forgot him in an instant
But forever he remained ingrained in my heart
Etched and sketched in black against white
Like an old cherished photograph dog-eared with time
Such misery such sadness I saw deep inside his eyes
Where was the sparkle the twinkle?
Where was the love that had once illuminated my life?
Is it you? Where have you been?
Where are you?
I feel you but I cannot see you
Let yourself be seen
Let your presence be known
I know it is you for I see you with the eyes of my heart
I still hear the bubbling sound of your warm crazy laughter
I long to see the sunbeams that once dazzled and danced in your eyes
And the smile that captured a million moonbeams
Let me touch you just once more
Show me that you are alive deep within that shell
Show me that you hear me
Let me in don’t push me away
Show me that you still remember me
Show me a glimpse of the love that we once shared
Take my hand and come forth from the darkness
Time has had its toll on you and now its time for you to heal
Leave the voices behind and follow the sound of my heart
Let my heartbeat guide you and bring you back home
Let me show you a glimpse of the love that we once shared
Let me show you a glitter a glimmer a shimmer of a once upon a time
