In a quiet room, during a meeting, while giving an important presentation in front of everyone, or while you’re just sitting around with friends — those grumbling noises come from your tummy at the most inappropriate moments. But there’s actually nothing to be embarrassed about since this process is normal for our bodies. It can occur because of hunger, slow digestion, or the consumption of certain foods, and believe it or not, it can be fixed.
Bright Side is always there to help our readers in uncomfortable situations. So here are some easy yet effective measures that will silence those loud noises in your belly in no time
1) Go for a walk after your meal
This faster emptying can reduce stomach rumbling. A post-meal walk can also benefit digestion in other ways. Research indicates that a 20-minute walk 15 minutes after eating lowers blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes. However, high-intensity activities should be avoided immediately after eating
2) Drink plenty of water
If you're stuck somewhere you can't eat and your stomach is rumbling away, drinking water can help stop it. The water will do two things: It can improve digestion and simultaneously fill your stomach to soothe some of the hunger reactions.
3) Eat slowly and chew more thoroughly
When you're eating, chew your food slowly and thoroughly. By completely pulverizing each bite, you're giving your stomach much less work to do later on. This can make digestion much easier. By chewing slowly, you're also less likely to swallow air, preventing indigestion and gas
4) Reduce excess sugar and fatty foods.
Fructose: This sugar is found naturally in some fruits, vegetables, and wheat. It is also present in many sweetened drinks and processed foods. According to the International Foundation for Gastrointestinal Disorders (IFFGD), it can cause a noisy gut.
The same goes for fat-saturated foods like bacon, sausage, and deep-fried foods that cause bloating. They don’t produce gas but they make you feel uncomfortably stuffed.
5) Have small snacks
Once the stomach has been empty for a while, growling noises may signal that it is time to eat again. Eating a small meal or snack may temporarily quell the sounds. Having food in the stomach also lowers the volume of stomach growling.
