  1. The cryptocurrency Ethereum project was allegedly hit again by cyberattacks causing outages to the platform.
  2. The Geth nodes within the network of the Ethereum blockchain were reportedly crashing ahead of the popular DevCon 2 conference in Shanghai. Ethereum developer and co-founder Jeffrey Wilcke posted a high severity security alert on the cryptocurrency’s website warning the Geth nodes on the network are “running out of memory and crashing on block 2283416,” according to reports.
  3. The parallel version was called Ethereum Classic (ETC) where the hack was never reversed. According to reports. The hacker reportedly donated the stolen cryptocurrency funds to this parallel Ethereum blockchain.
  4. Researchers speculate the attacker wanted to disrupt the cryptocurrency blockchain ahead of the major Ethereum event at DevCon2 in China, or the attacks were related to the June 2016 incident.
  5. The price of Ethereum remained relatively stable throughout the latest glitch, and only dropped momentarily. All nodes running the Geth software were forced to crash and restart using the Geth update.
