  1. Often times, when I find myself in high places I experience a visual phenomenon that I haven't been quite able to wrap my head around fully.
  2. I was hoping someone could help explain it here.
  3. In the photo, I am standing on a flat plane, looking directly outward on a path about 60 or more feet up. The road you see with the two cars head lights is not a hill but appears to be so...
  4. I am not sure if I am articulating this well enough, but hopefully these words and the photo will be sufficient enough enough for someone to help explain or provide me with the science behind these peculiar visual phenomenon.
  5. --------------------
  6. It took a moment to sink in, but there it was on the damp gravestone, my name. I wiped the mud and rain from these etchings in stone and stood in the dimming late autumn light, wondering what this meant for myself.

  14. Do you mean 'depth'? I'm not really sure what phenomenon you mean here

  25. Alright, so I made a cheesy diagram to try and describe what I am talking about.
  26. Take note of how the road comes up almost halfway into the picture- I am looking straight out from a high height, not down mind you and this road is pretty much flat, a 3 degree angle going down hill (at most) toward the direction I am facing. Yet it appears as if it is coming upward as if it were another hill or something... perhaps a picture from the bottom would help make more clear what I am talking about...
  27. What is marked by red is the phenomenon I am trying to figure out... Why does it appear this way from a height? My best guess is it having something to do with the parabolic shape of the eye...
