  14. can someone explain in simpler terms the difference between I/O operations per second vs I/O limits???
  15. In basic terms that sorta fit:
  16. IOPS = how many cars can enter an interstate / highway / speedy road thingy from the same on ramp / entrance within the same period of time
  17. IO limit = how fast all of those cars can travel on that on ramp at the same time in same period of time

  21. IOPS = speed at which a hard drive reads data from and writes data to a hard drive. For example,a 7.2k SATA drive contains about 80 IOPS.
  22. IO limit= maximum speed of data transfer between the hard disk and the RAM. Unlike some other limits, you don't "exceed" your I/O limit and it doesn't generate errors. Instead, a site just "hangs" while it waits for the data to transfer from the hard disk to the RAM.
  23. IOPS - The number of times per second you can either read or write to the disk. Depending on your application, the size of each of those operations can vary. It could be a 4K write/read, it could be a 32K write/read.
  24. IO Limit - The maximum speed you can read from or write to the disk at.
  25. With the limits you have, you could only make use fo the IOPS if each read/write was 2KB in size 2048KB / 1024 iops = 2KB per read/write.
